Howard Powell Named Asst. T&F/XC Coach through NCAA Diversity Grant

RINDGE, N.H. (July 29, 2013) – Franklin Pierce University head track & field/cross country coach Zach Emerson announced on Monday that Howard Powell has been added to the program’s coaching staff as an assistant coach. The hiring was made possible after the Department of Athletics had recently received a diversity grant from the NCAA, which promotes the hiring of minority candidates to help create more career opportunities in intercollegiate athletics. The funding for the grant is good for one year.

Hoyt Track and Field Complex. In total over the two days, Franklin Pierce collected 11 points to finish 10th at the 11-team meet.

(March 30, 2013) – Freshman Micaila Olson (Upton, Mass.) fired the javelin 35.38 meters on Saturday afternoon to finish sixth at the Snowflake Classic, hosted by Tufts University at Dussault Outdoor Track. Her performance was the best finish for Franklin Pierce on a day which featured four top-10 finishes and five top-20s en route to a 19th-place finish out of 23 teams at the meet.
