Hyde moves to fourth in Northeast-10 in hammer throw

Maresca Maresca placed 13th in the 800 meters on Saturday at Fitchburg State, the middle of three Ravens to finish in the top-15 of the event.

FITCHBURG, Mass. (April 20, 2013) – Freshmen Micaila Olson (Upton, Mass.), Nadine Hyde (Maple Valley, Wash.) and Alyssa Lambert (Manchester, N.H.) finished in the top 10 in the javelin, discus and 800 meters, respectively, on Saturday afternoon, to lead the way for the Franklin Pierce University women's track and field team at the Eric Loeschner Meet, hosted by Fitchburg State University at Elliot Athletic Complex. The Ravens collected nine points to finish 10th in the 15-team meet.

Hyde and Lambert each posted a pair of top-15 finishes on Saturday for Franklin Pierce. Hyde chalked up a sixth-place finish in the discus (34.08m), and added a 14th-place finish in the hammer throw (35.53m). Her distance in the latter was good enough to rank her fourth in the Northeast-10 Conference on the season. Meanwhile, Lambert placed ninth in the 800 meters (2:29.54) and 11th in the 400-meter dash (1:03.09).

Olson had the highest finish of the day for the Ravens, as she came in fourth in the javelin (34.83m) at Fitchburg State. The other two top-15 finishes of note for the crimson and grey came behind Lambert in the 800 meters. Freshman Ashley Maresca (Brant Lake, N.Y.) finished 13th (2:35.70) and freshman Doria Brown (Little Falls, N.J.) was right behind her in 14th (2:36.48).

Tufts (249 points) ran away with the team title in the meet, amassing more than double the points of second place Worcester State (120.5). Wheaton (Mass.) (78.5), Wellesley (58) and host Fitchburg State (48) rounded out the top five.

The Ravens will send competitors to a pair of meets in the upcoming week. Select participants will travel to the prestigious Penn Relays, the oldest and largest track meet in the country, hosted by the University of Pennsylvania at Franklin Field in Philadelphia from April 24-27. Meanwhile, the rest of the squad will head for the Stonehill Skyhawk Invitational at W.B. Mason Stadium in Easton, Mass. on Friday, April 26.
