Olson Leads Way as Women’s Track & Field Posts Four Top-10 Finishes at Snowflake Classic

Zeigler adds top-20 in 200-meter dash

Olson Olson finished sixth in the javelin -- the highest finish of the day for the Ravens -- on Saturday at Tufts' Snowflake Classic.

MEDFORD, Mass. (March 30, 2013) – Freshman Micaila Olson (Upton, Mass.) fired the javelin 35.38 meters on Saturday afternoon to finish sixth at the Snowflake Classic, hosted by Tufts University at Dussault Outdoor Track. Her performance was the best finish for Franklin Pierce on a day which featured four top-10 finishes and five top-20s en route to a 19th-place finish out of 23 teams at the meet.

The Ravens did most of their damage in the afternoon's field events, as Olson's was one of three top-10 finishes in the throwing and jumping disciplines. Freshman Nadine Hyde (Maple Valley, Wash.) -- currently the Northeast-10 leader in the discus -- came up shy of her throw last week at Bridgewater State, but still finished eighth (38.20m). Freshman Danielle Demers (Auburn, Maine) posted a 10th-place finish in the triple jump (10.31m).

Rounding out the top-10 finishes for Franklin Pierce on Saturday was freshman Alyssa Lambert (Manchester, N.H.), who finished ninth in the 800 meters (2:25.64). At a quarter of that distance, freshman Nicki Zeigler (Circleville, N.Y.) finished 19th in the 200-meter dash (27.66).

Host Tufts (124 points) ran away with the team title at the meet, posting a 44-point victory over second-place Boston College (80). Northeastern (71), Worcester State (66.5) and Harvard (57) rounded out the top five. Franklin Pierce finished 19th with six points.

The Ravens are back on the track on Saturday, April 6, at the UMass Lowell George Davis Invitational at the Cushing Field Complex in Lowell, Mass.
