Field Hockey Has 10 Named to NFHCA Division II National Academic Squad

RINDGE, N.H. (April 10, 2014) – Sophomore forward Chelsey Burnell (West Baldwin, Maine), freshman back Morgan Caisse (Westminster, Mass.), freshman forward Francesca Cartee (Rindge, N.H.), freshman forward Rachel Deneault (Holden, Mass.), freshman midfielder Andrea Fahey (Hudson, Mass.), senior midfielder Alesia Gleason (Harwich, Mass.), freshman back Shannon O’Leary (Florence, Mass.), freshman back Emily Standring (Worcester, Mass.), sophomore midfielder Erin Wood (Dover, N.Y.) and freshman goalkeeper Amy Zahensky (Bow, N.H.) of the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team have all been named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division II National Academic Squad, as announced earlier this spring by the NFHCA.

RINDGE, N.H. (November 13, 2013) – Senior forward Chanelle Letarte (Lunenburg, Mass.) of the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team has been selected to represent the North Squad at the National Field Hockey Coaches Association North/South Senior Game, as announced by the NFHCA. The game is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 23 at 12:30 p.m. at Virginia Beach Sportsplex in Virginia Beach, Va., host of the 2013 national semifinals and national championship matches across all three NCAA divisions.

RINDGE, N.H. (November 2, 2013) – Sophomore forward Erin Trainor (Auburn, Mass.) bookended the scoring on the Saturday afternoon, and put home the game-winner with 6:43 to play in regulation, as the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team capped its season with a 5-4 win over Southern Connecticut State in a raucous non-conference affair at Sodexo Field. Senior forward Sarah Cebry scored three of the four SCSU goals in the loss.

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (October 31, 2013) – A snake-bit offense controlled the game but could not find a goal on Thursday afternoon, as the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team suffered a 1-0 loss at Mercy in non-conference play at Mavericks Field. Senior midfielder Nicole Bencsik scored the game’s only goal in the win for Mercy.

(October 29, 2013) – Senior forward Alesia Gleason (Harwich, Mass.) put an imaginative lift over the defense and the goalkeeper on a first-half penalty corner to cut a 2-0 deficit to 2-1, but the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team would never draw closer on Tuesday evening in a 3-1 loss to Saint Anselm in Northeast-10 Conference play at Sodexo Field. Sophomore forward Meagan Halligan scored twice in the win for Saint Anselm.

WORCESTER, Mass. (October 26, 2013) – Sophomore forward Chelsey Burnell (West Baldwin, Maine) scored with 14:59 remaining on Saturday afternoon to pull the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team within a goal, as it attempted to rally from a 3-0 deficit. However, the Ravens could never find the equalizer, and gave up a late goal to drop a 4-2 decision to Assumption in Northeast-10 Conference play at Multi-Sport Stadium. Sophomore forward Taylor Chase scored twice in the win for Assumption.

(October 23, 2013) – Junior midfielder Adria Liseno (Somersworth, N.H.) scored her first career goal in the second half on Wednesday night, but it was the only goal of the game for the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team, which dropped a 6-1 decision to No. 3 nationally ranked Stonehill in Northeast-10 Conference play at Sodexo Field. Sophomore forward Erika Kelly scored twice in the win for Stonehill.

(October 17, 2013) – Senior midfielder Alesia Gleason (Harwich, Mass.) had her first career multiple-goal game on Thursday night, as she scored twice to lead the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team to a 4-3 win over Southern Connecticut State in Northeast-10 Conference play at Jess Dow Field. The win snapped an 11-game losing streak for Franklin Pierce. Senior forward Sarah Cebry scored twice in the loss for SCSU.

(October 15, 2013) – On a crisp fall night where neither team found much offense, No. 10 nationally ranked Bentley was one better in the second half on Tuesday, as the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team dropped a 2-1 decision in Northeast-10 Conference play at Bentley University Turf Field. Freshman midfielder Tori Ellis assisted on both Bentley goals, while sophomore midfielder Erin Trainor (Auburn, Mass.) found the cage for Franklin Pierce.

(October 12, 2013) – Junior midfielder Taylor Libby (Sidney, Maine) tied the game at 2-2 with 7:54 to play on Saturday afternoon for the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team, but American International sophomore forward Ainslee Penfield scored the game-winner just 98 seconds later to give AIC a 3-2 win in Northeast-10 Conference play at Sodexo Field. The goal was the second of the day for Penfield, as she bookended the afternoon’s scoring.

(October 9, 2013) – Junior forward Cassaundra Davis scored twice on Wednesday afternoon to lead Saint Michael’s to a 4-0 win over the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team in Northeast-10 Conference play at Duffy Field. The Franklin Pierce offense was unable to make any inroads on the afternoon, as the Ravens were outshot 17-5 and were held to just one shot on goal.

(October 1, 2013) – Senior forward Chanelle Letarte (Lunenburg, Mass.) scored on a slick redirect late in the first half on Wednesday afternoon to tie the game at 2-2, but a pair of goals in the final 3:14 of regulation would be the undoing of the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team, as Merrimack escaped with a 4-2 victory in Northeast-10 Conference play at Sodexo Field. Senior midfielder Jessica Otis piled up six points by factoring in on all four Merrimack scores with two goals and two assists.

(September 27, 2013) – Facing its second nationally ranked opponent in three days and arguably the more difficult foe of the two, the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team grinded through another resilient effort on Friday night against No. 5 nationally ranked LIU Post. The effort alone would not be enough however, as LIU Post collected a 20-3 advantage in shots on goal on the way to a 4-0 win in Northeast-10 Conference play at Sodexo Field. Freshman goalkeeper Amy Zahensky (Bow, N.H.) made a season-best 16 saves in front of the Franklin Pierce cage.

(September 25, 2013) – Less than eight minutes into the second half on Wednesday night, senior forward Chanelle Letarte (Lunenburg, Mass.) found the back of the cage for her team-leading fourth goal of the season, as the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team surged out of the halftime break in hopes of rallying from a 3-0 deficit. Though the offense continued to generate chances throughout the second half, it would be the only goal of the night for Franklin Pierce, which dropped a 3-1 decision to No. 4 nationally ranked Stonehill in non-conference play at W.B. Mason Stadium. Senior forward Kelly Gouveia scored twice in the victory for Stonehill.

Sophomore midfielder Erin Trainor (Auburn, Mass.) and freshman forward Rachel Deneault (Holden, Mass.) each scored their first career goals in the game for Franklin Pierce.
