RINDGE, N.H. (July 5, 2011) – A trio of Franklin Pierce University student-athletes were honored on Tuesday by being named to the 2011 Northeast-10 Conference All-Academic Team for their respective sport. Senior standouts Derek Ingui (Sterling, Mass.) and Emily Griffin (Leominster, Mass.) were named to the baseball and softball teams, respectively, while sophomore Emily Lodge (Lyman, Maine) was placed on the women’s lacrosse squad. Griffin and Lodge each produced a 4.0 GPA during the past year, while Ingui recorded an impressive 3.8 mark.

RINDGE, N.H. (June 8, 2011) – A trio of pitchers from the Franklin Pierce University baseball team all heard their names called on Wednesday afternoon on the third day of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. Sophomore right-hander Ryan Thompson (Calgary, Alberta) was selected in the 36th round (1,109 overall) by the New York Yankees, senior left-hander Brian Maloney (Brockton, Mass.) was taken in the 45th round (1,377 overall) by the San Francisco Giants and junior left-hander Gregg Downing (Queens, N.Y.) was drafted in the 47th round (1,424 overall) by the Los Angeles Dodgers.

(June 5, 2011) – Five members of the Franklin Pierce University baseball team will be waiting by the phone this week, as they hope to be selected in the 2011 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, scheduled for Monday through Wednesday, June 6-8. Sophomore right-hander Ryan Thompson (Calgary, Alberta) and junior catcher Mike Dowd (East Bridgewater, Mass.) are expected to be selected in the top half of the 50-round draft, while senior designated hitter Derek Ingui (Sterling, Mass.), senior left-hander Brian Maloney (Brockton, Mass.) and junior left-hander Gregg Downing (Queens, N.Y.) are all potential late-round selections.

(June 2, 2011) – Franklin Pierce University baseball alum Justin Blood ’04 has been named as the 14th Head Baseball Coach at the University of Hartford, a Division I member of the America East Conference, as announced Tuesday. It will be the first head-coaching job for Blood, who has been with the University of Connecticut since 2006, most recently as the Associate Head Coach and Recruiting Coordinator.

(May 21, 2011) – Junior right-hander Ryan Yerina and senior right-hander Mike Johnston combined to throw a six-hit shutout on Saturday night as fourth-seeded and No. 8/20 nationally ranked Southern Connecticut State downed the second-seeded and No. 15/25 Franklin Pierce University baseball team, 3-0, in an elimination game on the third day of the NCAA Championship East Regional, hosted by Franklin Pierce at Dr. Arthur and Martha Pappas Field. Freshman right-hander Kevin McGowan (Nashua, N.H.) tossed a complete-game seven-hitter and allowed just two earned runs in defeat for Franklin Pierce.

(May 21, 2011) – Senior left-hander Brian Maloney (Brockton, Mass.) fired a five-hit shutout and struck out nine on Saturday afternoon as the No. 15/25 nationally ranked and second-seeded Franklin Pierce University baseball team fought off elimination with a 3-0 victory over fifth-seeded Massachusetts Lowell on the third day of the NCAA Championship East Regional, hosted by Franklin Pierce at Dr. Arthur and Martha Pappas Field. Freshman third baseman Josh Rouse (Milford, Conn.) hit a double and scored twice in the win for Franklin Pierce.

(May 20, 2011) – Sophomore center fielder Mike Cleary went 2-for-3 with a pair of walks, drove in three runs and scored once on Friday night to lead fourth-seeded and No. 8/20 nationally ranked Southern Connecticut State to a 9-2 win over the second-seeded and No. 15/25 Franklin Pierce University baseball team on the second day of the NCAA Championship East Regional, hosted by Franklin Pierce University at Dr. Arthur and Martha Pappas Field. Franklin Pierce pitching walked 13 batters in the game, while the lineup left 11 men on base, including seven in scoring position.
