RINDGE, N.H. (May 24, 2011) – Senior third baseman Derek Ingui (Sterling, Mass.) of the Franklin Pierce University baseball team has been named to the CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-America Second Team in the College Division (Division II/III institutions), as announced Tuesday by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America).

To be eligible for selection, each student-athlete must own a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average or higher, be at least a sophomore in academic standing and be a starter or significant contributor athletically. Only Academic All-District First Team selections appear on the Academic All-America ballot. The Academic All-District and All-America teams are voted on by sports information directors in the district and nation, respectively.

It is Ingui's first Academic All-America selection. He was an Academic All-District selection each of the three years he was eligible, including First Team honors in 2008 and 2010.

Heading into his final semester as a Raven, Ingui owned a 3.81 grade-point average as a biology major and graduated earlier this month. On the field, he finished the season in the top five in the Northeast-10 Conference in a multitude of offensive categories: batting average (.387), slugging percentage (.634), on-base percentage (.454), runs scored (52), hits (75), home runs (10), runs batted in (47) and total bases (123). Ingui is a consensus All-East Region First Team selection, having earned the honors from the ABCA, Daktronics and the NCBWA. He was an All-Northeast-10 First Team selection, a College Baseball Lineup DII All-Star Team selection and a semifinalist for College Baseball Lineup's Tino Martinez Division II Baseball Player of the Year Award.

Franklin Pierce (40-14, 19-7 Northeast-10) reached the 40-win plateau for the fifth time in program history (all in the last six years) in 2011, and made its seventh straight appearance in the NCAA Championship. The Ravens hosted an NCAA Regional for the sixth time in program history, all in the last seven years.
