Field Hockey Has Program-Record 14 Named to NFHCA Division II National Academic Squad

RINDGE, N.H. (March 24, 2016) – The Franklin Pierce University field hockey team has had a program-record 14 student-athletes named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division II National Academic Squad, as announced earlier this week by the NFHCA. Furthermore, freshman midfielder Sarah Bjorn (Holden, Mass.), senior midfielder Chelsey Burnell (Porter, Maine), sophomore forward Carly Canavan (Kingston, N.Y.) and freshman goalkeeper Samantha Geils (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) have all been named Scholars of Distinction by the NFHCA, while the team earned the NFHCA’s National Academic Team Award.

RINDGE, N.H. (February 3, 2016) – Four Franklin Pierce University student-athletes have been named to the fall 2015 Northeast-10 Academic All-Conference Team in their respective sports, as announced Wednesday by the Conference office. Field hockey saw senior forward Chelsey Burnell (Porter, Maine) and sophomore forward Carly Canavan (Kingston, N.Y.) honored, while junior Jon Holmes (Albany, N.Y.) of the men’s cross country team and graduate student midfielder David Magee (Lurgan, Ireland) of the men’s soccer team earned the accolade as well. The selected Ravens were among 79 student-athletes across seven sports honored by the Northeast-10.

(November 9, 2015) – Senior midfielder Natalia Bachelder (South Berwick, Maine) of the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team has been selected to participate in the Victory Sports Tours / NFHCA Division II Senior Game, as announced by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association. This year’s Senior Game is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 21 at Bloomsburg University, in conjunction with the NCAA Championship the same weekend.

(November 4, 2015) – Senior midfielder Natalia Bachelder (South Berwick, Maine) and sophomore forward Carly Canavan (Kingston, N.Y.) of the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team have both been named to the All-Northeast-10 Conference Second Team, as announced on Wednesday afternoon by the Conference office. In addition, freshman midfielder Raegan Moulton (Baldwinville, Mass.) was named to the Northeast-10 All-Rookie Team.

(October 30, 2015) – It looked like heartbreak could be story of Senior Day at Sodexo Field on Friday afternoon, as the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team surrendered the tying goal with just 2:37 left to play in regulation against LIU Post. However, in the 84th minute, with just 1:20 to play in the first overtime, junior midfielder Kenady Kelly (Plymouth, N.H.) made sure the team’s six seniors left on a happy note, as her second goal of the day went as the game-winner in a 2-1 victory in Northeast-10 Conference play.

(October 27, 2015) – Trailing 2-0 early in the second half, the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team got goals in the second stanza from sophomore forward Erin Smith (Templeton, Mass.) and junior midfielder Kenady Kelly (Plymouth, N.H.) on Tuesday afternoon. Unfortunately for the Ravens, No. 8 nationally ranked Saint Anselm was able to slip an insurance marker between the two scores to short-circuit the rally, as the Hawks left with a 3-2 victory in Northeast-10 Conference play at Sodexo Field.

(October 24, 2015) – After struggling through the first half, the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team was able to generate pressure throughout the second half, particularly in the final 20 minutes on Saturday. Still, the only goal of the game would come from Bentley freshman forward Rachel Crowley, with just 1:47 to play in regulation, as the Ravens suffered a 1-0 loss in Northeast-10 Conference play at Bentley University Turf Field.

(October 21, 2015) – While sophomore goalkeeper Meaghan Williams (Salem, N.H.) was busy turning aside all seven shots on her goal on Wednesday night, the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team scored twice in the first half and added a second-half insurance marker at Larkin Field. It all added up to a 3-0 win for the Ravens over Southern New Hampshire on the road in Northeast-10 Conference play.

(October 17, 2015) – Down 3-0 before it could settle in on Saturday afternoon at Motamed Field, the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team never recovered in a 4-0 loss at No. 8 nationally ranked Adelphi in Northeast-10 Conference play. Senior midfielder Molly Cuevas scored twice and added an assist for the Panthers, while senior forward Kristen Bagley had a goal and an assist.

(October 12, 2015) – On a day when a pair of seniors scored their first collegiate goals, it was only the beginning of the scoring for the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team at Sodexo Field on Monday afternoon. The Ravens discovered the back of the net seven times on Columbus Day, including two each from senior forwards Chelsey Burnell (Porter, Maine) and Samantha Hulme (Simsbury, Conn.), as they rolled to a 7-0 win over St. Thomas Aquinas in non-conference play.

(October 10, 2015) – After it had taken the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team 21:32 to erase a 2-0 halftime deficit, it took sophomore forward Carly Canavan (Kingston, N.Y.) just 5:55 into overtime to net the game-winning goal on Saturday evening. Canavan’s second goal of the night -- her sixth career multiple-goal game and third of the season -- gave the Ravens a 3-2, come-from-behind win on the road at Southern Connecticut State in Northeast-10 Conference play at Jess Dow Field.

(October 7, 2015) – Sodexo Field was decked out in pink -- as were the fans in attendance -- on Wednesday afternoon, as the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team hosted its Play for the Cure game, raising money in support of breast cancer research and awareness. Despite the good cause in tow, the Ravens were unable to pull out a win on their home field, as Stonehill used a pair of second-half goals to finish off a 3-1 victory in Northeast-10 Conference play.

RINDGE, N.H. (October 2, 2015) – On a cold and wet Friday night at Sodexo Field, both teams struggled to generate offense before a flurry of goals late in the second half. Freshman midfielder Raegan Moulton (Baldwinville, Mass.) procured the eventual game-winner for the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team in the 57th minute, as the Ravens put away Pace with two late goals for a 3-1 win in Northeast-10 Conference play.

COLCHESTER, Vt. (September 29, 2015) – After the two teams traded goals sandwiched around the halftime break, the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team forced the issue on the road in the second half on Tuesday, but was unable to take a lead at Duffy Field. Instead, the Northeast-10 Conference contest went to overtime, where Saint Michael’s senior midfielder Morgan Mazanec scored the game-winning goal in a 2-1 victory for the Purple Knights.
