Two Ravens Earn Spots on NE10 Academic All-Conference Teams

RINDGE, N.H. (July 13, 2017) – Franklin Pierce University has had two student-athletes earn Northeast-10 Academic All-Conference honors for the spring season, as announced on Thursday by the Conference office. Junior John Amendola (Wallingford, Conn.) of the baseball team, along with senior Jon Holmes (Albany, N.Y.) of the men’s track & field team, were both honored by the league. The selected Ravens were among 93 student-athletes across 10 sports honored by the NE10.

(May 14, 2017) – Senior right fielder Nick Perrelli went 3-for-4 and drove in four runs on Saturday, to key a 7-3 win for New Haven over the Franklin Pierce University baseball team at New Haven’s Frank Vieira Field. The win for the Chargers forced a decisive, winner-take-all title game on the final day of the Northeast-10 Conference Championship, with the league’s automatic berth to next week’s NCAA Championship East Regional on the line.

(May 14, 2017) – In need of only a doubleheader split on Sunday to claim the Northeast-10 Conference title, the Franklin Pierce University baseball team was unable to come up with a win at Frank Vieira Field, on the campus of the University of New Haven. Instead, after a 7-3 win in the first game to force a winner-take-all game, New Haven used a seven-run fourth to deal the Ravens a 12-1 defeat and claim the NE10 Championship.

(May 12, 2017) – Three wild pitches in the top of the seventh helped put the Franklin Pierce University baseball team ahead to stay on Friday afternoon, as the Northeast Division’s second seed scored a 6-4 win over the division’s top seed, No. 4/5 nationally ranked Southern New Hampshire, on the second day of the Northeast-10 Conference Championship, hosted by the University of New Haven at Frank Vieira Field. Senior right-hander Miles Sheehan (Madison, Conn.) struck out three over two high-tension innings to nail down his first save of the season and send the Ravens through to the tournament’s championship round.

(May 11, 2017) – What was a 1-1 game temporarily turned into a baseball-themed circus in the bottom of the seventh inning on Thursday afternoon at Frank Vieira Field on the campus of the University of New Haven. At one point, the Franklin Pierce University baseball team had 10 straight batters reach base without the ball leaving infield, thanks to a combination of walks, hit batters and defensive lapses. In all, the Ravens would send 19 men to the plate in the inning and score 13 runs on just five hits to break things open on the way to a 14-1 win on the first day of the Northeast-10 Conference Championship.

(May 4, 2017) – Junior right-hander John Amendola (Wallingford, Conn.) and graduate student right-hander Tanner Bird (Adams, Mass.) of the Franklin Pierce University baseball team have been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District I First Team, as announced on Thursday afternoon by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America). As a result of the selection, both Amendola and Bird will advance to the Academic All-America ballot.
