Women’s Cross Country Places 16th at NCAA East Regional

HOPKINTON, N.H. (November 5, 2016) – Freshman Julia Cormier (Northwood, N.H.) finished 59th on Saturday afternoon, to lead the way for the Franklin Pierce University women's cross country team at the NCAA Championship East Regional, hosted by Franklin Pierce at Hopkinton State Fairgrounds. Cormier finished well inside the top half of the 191-runner field to lead the Ravens to a 16th-place finish, out of 28 teams.

Cormier finished the 6k course with a time of 23:42.5, good for an average mile time of 6:21.5. It was 13 spots back to the next Raven across the line, with fellow freshman Rebecca Zylak (Goffstown, N.H.) checking in at 72nd place, with a time of 24:06.5. The remaining scoring for Franklin Pierce came between 96th and 106th position: junior Natalie Davies (Ware, Mass.) placed 96th in 24:41.6, junior Alexa Cassara (Bay Shore, N.Y.) took 101st in 24:48.5, and sophomore Sarah Hart (Glastonbury, Conn.) finished 106th in 24:53.5.

It all added up to 419 points for the Ravens, who checked in at 16th place. Up front, all five Stonehill runners finished in the top 15, as the Skyhawks amassed just 48 points in a convincing victory at the East Regional. Stonehill finished 42 points in front of second-place Assumption (90 points). Roberts Wesleyan (113 points), Daemen (159 points) and Bentley (203 points) rounded out the top five, in that order.

Individually, Stonehill senior Nicole Borofski (20:157.5) was first across the line, claiming the East Regional crown for herself for the second straight year. She was 26 seconds in front of the second-place finisher, American International senior Pascaline Jerotich (21:23.8). Roberts Wesleyan senior Elizabeth Valento (21:34.6) in third, LIU Post junior Tayla Williams (21:36.8) in fourth and Southern Connecticut State senior Natasha Fitzpatrick (21:45.4) in fifth filled out the rest of the top five.
