Women’s Golf Tied for Fifth, Morrison Stands In Third Following Round One at Regionals

BIG RAPIDS. Mich. (May 7, 2018) The no. 12 regionally-ranked Franklin Pierce University women's golf program is tied for fifth place following the first round of competition at the 2018 NCAA Division II Tournament East Super Regional.

The Raven women teed off at 9:30 a.m. today and produced a 309 (+21) round one total score. They are currently tied for fifth place with no. 7 Ashland University. No. 2 Grand Valley State University (289, +1), no. 1 the University of Indianapolis (292, +4) and no. 5 Northern Michigan University (301, +13) round out the east region top three.

"We came strong out of the gates today," said head coach Tyler Bishop. "We were the 12th ranked team to start this tournament and after the first round, we are tied for fifth. I am proud of their efforts and the poise they showed today. We are going to build off of today and keep the momentum going for the next two rounds."

Individually for the Crimson and Grey, Camden Morrison (Millis, Mass.) is deadlocked with Olivia Reed of Grand Valley State and Haley Hewer of Northern Michigan for third overall on the leaderboard as the trio shot a one under first 18 (71, -1). Morrison and Hewer are also tied in par 4 scoring at 3.88, -1 and the Ravens co-captain ranks fourth in the field with 15 total pars. Morrison began her morning on the back nine with a birdie on 10 before tallying a stretch of 11 straight pars.

Also contributing to the Ravens success on Monday were Zoe Yamamoto (Honolulu, Hawaii) and Taylor Schmidt (West Springfield, Mass.). The sophomore ranked second on the squad swinging a 78 (+6) total while co-captain Schmidt manufactured a 79 (+7).

Sarah Daley (Beverly, Mass.) dropped home two birdies on the back nine at the 12th and 13th cup to finish Monday with an 81 (+9). Rosa Jones (Mastic, N.Y.), competing from the no. 5 spot, produced an 87 (+15).

Franklin Pierce looks to climb up the team leaderboard tomorrow when they tee off on hole one at 8:30 a.m.
