Men’s Track & Field Competes at Penn Relays, CCSU Track & Field Invitational

RINDGE, N.H. (April 28, 2018) – On Saturday, the Franklin Pierce University men's track & field team wrapped up three days of competition at the prestigious Penn Relays, hosted by the University of Pennsylvania at historic Franklin Field in Philadelphia. In addition, the full team was in action back in New England, at the CCSU Track & Field Invitational, hosted by Central Connecticut State University in New Britain, Conn.

In all, Franklin Pierce fielded athletes in three events at the Penn Relays. The 4x800-meter team highlighted the trip to Philadelphia, as they laid down a school-record time of 7:35.18, which is also the Northeast-10 Conference's best time so far this spring. The lineup of freshman Hugo Arlabosse (Marseille, France), senior Joshua Ercolini (Woburn, Mass.), graduate student Dage Minors (Hamilton Parish, Bermuda) and graduate student Jon Holmes (Albany, N.Y.) finished eighth at the meet.

Meanwhile, at the individual level, sophomore Jeff Reddy (Chester, N.H.) finished 80th in the men's 5000 meters, with a time of 15:02.80, while senior Rindal Pierre-Canel (Randolph, Mass.) took 16th in the college triple jump, with a mark of 13.76 meters. Reddy's time currently ranks second in the NE10, while Pierre-Canel's distance sits fifth in the league.

Back closer to home, the Ravens rang up 130 points to finish second in what was, in effect, a tri-meet at CCSU. The host Blue Devils finished first, with 334 points, while the University of Hartford rounded out the field in third, with 82 points.

The Ravens got a total of six top-three finishes on the day in the Hardware City. Senior Martin Gradijan (Lebanon, N.H.) led the way, with a win in the 3000-meter steeplechase. His time of 10:01.91 is currently good for seventh in the NE10. Elsewhere, senior Peter Murray (Tewksbury, Mass.) posted a mark which is currently good for ninth in the league. He finished second, out of two, in the hammer throw, with a distance of 41.62 meters.

Franklin Pierce also got a second-place finish, again out of two participants, in the 4x100-meter relay. It was a time of 42.79 seconds for sophomore Jebediah Hogan (Gloucester, Mass.), junior Jaris Neville (Atlanta, Ga.), sophomore Gerald Leith (Dorchester, Mass.) and senior Nicholas Jacques (Westfield, Mass.). The time currently sits fifth in the NE10.

Rounding out the top-three performances for the Ravens on the day were a trio of third-place finishes: Jacques in the 200-meter dash (22.81), sophomore Jack Ehrhardt (Point Pleasant, N.J.) in the 110-meter hurdles (18.24) and sophomore Jason Reed (Foxborough, Mass.) in the 1500 meters (4:12.60).

The Ravens are back in action on Sunday, April 29, when they travel to Troy, N.Y., for the Capital District Classic, hosted by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
