Men’s Track & Field Lights Up NE-10 Leaderboards at CCSU Invitational

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (April 2, 2016) – Senior Colton Ham (Webster, N.H.) in the 3000-meter steeplechase, sophomore Rindal Pierre-Canel (Randolph, Mass.) in the long jump and graduate student Andre Wooten (St. Charles, Mo.) in the triple jump each put up the Northeast-10 Conference's best time in their events so far this spring on Saturday, as the Franklin Pierce University men's track & field team competed at the CCSU Invitational, hosted by Central Connecticut State.

Ham turned in a time of 9:26.83 to place third in the steeplechase, Pierre-Canel put together a leap of 6.61 meters to finish third in the long jump and Wooten had a mark of 14.16 meters to win the triple jump. For his part, Pierre-Canel added another top-five finish by taking second in the triple jump (13.95m), with a mark which ranked second in the Northeast-10.

Behind Ham in the steeplechase, junior B.J. Smith (Concord, N.H.) ran a time of 9:36.02 to finish fifth and rank second in the Conference. Behind Pierre-Canel in the long jump, junior Cory Cataldo (Tewksbury, Mass.) had a leap of 6.52 meters to finish fourth and rank third in the Northeast-10. Cataldo also ran a time of 16.24 seconds to move to third in the league and finish sixth in the 110-meter hurdles, where he was joined by junior Mark Choiniere (Ballston Spa, N.Y.), who finished seventh (16.65) to rank fourth in the NE-10.

Franklin Pierce also had a pair of top-five finishes in the 10,000 meters on Saturday in the Hardware City. Sophomore Martin Gradijan (Lebanon, N.H.) ranks second in the Northeast-10 after finishing fourth, with a time of 34:00.59. Fellow sophomore Derek Robbie (Bellingham, Mass.) ranks fourth in the NE-10 after finishing fifth, with a time of 34:41.71. Elsewhere on the track, sophomore Nicholas Jacques (Westfield, Mass.) finished seventh in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.45 seconds, which was good for third in the league.

The Ravens collected three other top-five finishes in field events in New Britain. Senior Chris Bohi (Loudon, N.H.) took fourth in the javelin, with a throw of 55.15 meters. Sophomore Peter Murray (Tewksbury, Mass.) was fifth in the hammer, with a heave of 35.50 meters. Freshman Ryan Woolley (Wallingford, Conn.) finished fifth in the pole vault by clearing 3.80 meters, which was good enough to tie for third in the NE-10.

The Ravens return to the track on Saturday, April 9, when they travel to the Yellow Jacket Invitational, hosted by American International in Springfield, Mass.
