Pierre-Canel Top-Five in Long Jump, Triple Jump for Men’s Track & Field at Wesleyan Spring Classic

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (March 26, 2016) – Senior Colton Ham (Webster, N.H.) won the 1500 meters, junior B.J. Smith (Concord, N.H.) won the 3000 meters and sophomore Rindal Pierre-Canel (Randolph, Mass.) finished in the top five in both the long jump and triple jump on Saturday, as the Franklin Pierce University men's track & field team opened the outdoor season at the Wesleyan Spring Classic.

Ham and Smith picked up the Ravens' two victories on the track on Saturday. Ham turned in a time of 4:03.46 to win the 1500 meters, while Smith stopped the clock at 8:50.69 to win the 3000 meters. Franklin Pierce also picked up a win in field events, where senior Chris Bohi (Loudon, N.H.) turned in a throw of 57.79 meters to take first in the javelin.

Meanwhile, in field events, Pierre-Canel was busy amassing a pair of top-five finishes. He was second in the triple jump by putting together a mark of 13.27 meters, and placed fourth in the long jump with a leap of 6.38 meters. Joining Pierre-Canel in the top-five of the triple jump was junior Cody Steed (Chichester, N.H.), who turned in a mark of 12.45 meters to finish fifth.

Franklin Pierce picked up two further top-five finishes in field events at Wesleyan. Junior John Delahanty (Long Beach, N.Y.) tied for fourth in the pole vault by clearing 3.95 meters. Junior Mark Josselyn (Halifax, Mass.) took fifth in the hammer throw with a heave of 41.96 meters.

Back on the track, junior Cory Cataldo (Tewksbury, Mass.) placed second in the 400-meter hurdles, with a time of 58.16 seconds.

Delahanty was also part of a top-five relay finish, as he ran the anchor leg of a 4x400-meter relay squad which finished fourth, with a time of 3:33.72. He was joined by sophomore Nicholas Jacques (Westfield, Mass.), senior Vincent Biunno (Montgomery, N.Y.) and senior Mitchel McNanna (Milford, Mass.).

The Ravens return to the track on Saturday, April 2, when they travel to the CCSU Invite in New Britain, Conn.
