Baseball: Ravens Split First Conference Games with Setters of Pace University

PLEASANTVILLE, NY (3/22/24) – The Ravens kicked off their first conference games of the season Friday afternoon in a double header against the Setters of Pace University. In game one, the Ravens came out on top 3-2, but the team later fell in the second game, 4-1.  

GAME ONE:
Score: Franklin Pierce 3, Pace 2 
Records: Franklin Pierce 7-7 (1-0, NE10), Pace 8-7 (2-2, NE10) 
Location: Peter X Finnerty Field, Pleasantville, N.Y. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

  • After 3 scoreless innings with only one hit combined between the Ravens and Setters, FPU came to life in the fourth and tallied two runs off singles from Hunter Wilochoski (Hamilton, Mass.) and Julian Monks (Pace, France) driving in Ian Battipaglia (Cheshire, Conn.) and Kiobel Lugo (Boston, Mass.) making it a 2-0 ball game going into the bottom of the fourth.  
  • The Setters then matched the Ravens in the bottom of the fourth collecting two runs after Mason Baronian and Hunter Goldstein had RBI singles tying the game 2-2.  
  • The pitchers dual continued all the way into the eighth inning when Raven shortstop Ian Battipaglia hit a solo homer to pull the Ravens ahead and eventually secure the game one win 3-2.  

 BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS: 

  • Kyle Roche (Braintree, Mass.) (W, 4-1) and Patrick Gleason (L, 1-2) pitched eight innings for both the Ravens and the Setters. Roche had 10 strikeouts over his eight innings allowing 2 earned runs on 5 hits and walking one in the win. Gleason had six strikeouts over his eight innings of work while allowing 3 runs on 6 hits and didn't walk a single batter.  
  • The Ravens and the Setters each had 6 hits in the ball game.  
  • The Ravens left 8 runners on base to the Setters 6.  

GAME TWO : After picking up the 3-2 win, the Ravens tallied just two hits in the second game of the doubleheader, splitting the series with the Setters.

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • After not scoring runs until the fourth in the first game, the Setters ambushed Raven starter Drew DeLucia (Medway, Mass.) scoring all four runs in the first inning. Anthony Labita hit a two-run homer to give the Setters a 2-0 lead which was extended after George Provel singled down the left field line scoring two more making it 4-0 at the end of the first.  
  • After two clean innings the Ravens were able to get on the board in the third when Ian Battipaglia singled down the left field line, scoring Chris Roberti (New Fairfield, Conn.) making it 4-1. Pitching from both sides dominated the remainder of the game, securing the win for the Setters and splitting the series at 1 game apiece.  

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS: 

  • Drew DeLucia (L, 0-1) went 5 and a thirds innings, striking out 4 while giving up 9 hits and four runs, all in the first that was enough to get the loss. Dan Brown (W, pitched 6 solid innings striking out 10 batters while only allowing one run on two hits.  
  • The Ravens were out hit by the Setters 9-2.  
  • The Ravens left 5 runners on base while the Setters left 6 on base.
