The Ravens opened the scoring with an unearned run in the top of the third inning. Freshman left fielder Chris LaVorgna (North Haven, Conn.) led off the inning and reached on a throwing error by Saint Leo freshman third baseman Dylan Harris. Two batters later, LaVorgna went first-to-third on a single to left field by sophomore shortstop Justin Brock (Latham, N.Y.). Two batters after the Brock single, with runners at the corners and two away, Franklin Pierce put on the first-and-third double steal play, with Brock stealing second and LaVorgna stealing home on the throw to plate the game's first run.

Saint Leo scored twice in the bottom of the fifth to take a 2-1 lead. Junior catcher Dale Irving worked a one-out walk and scored as Newcomb staked the Lions to the lead with a two-run home run to left field, his first of the season.

Franklin Pierce tied the game at 2-2 with a run in the top of the seventh. Junior catcher Matt Walsh (Plymouth, Mass.) led off and cracked a double the other way down the right-field line. He moved to third two batters later on a single back up the middle by senior designated hitter Marty Dunlap (Dorchester, Mass.) and scored when LaVorgna lifted a sacrifice fly to left field.

The Ravens picked up two more runs in the top of the eighth to jump to a 4-2 lead. With one out, junior right fielder John Razzino (Cranston, R.I.) singled back up the middle and scored when Jabs followed with a two-run home run, his team-leading third of the campaign.

An unearned insurance run in the top of the ninth inning pushed the Franklin Pierce lead to 5-2. With one out, LaVorgna reached on an error by Saint Leo freshman second baseman Alex Mata and then stole second. LaVorgna would score from second on an RBI single back through the middle by freshman second baseman Kyle Hood (Arlington, Mass.).
