Thompson Thompson has earned the first Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star selection in Franklin Pierce history.

RINDGE, N.H. (July 24, 2012) – Junior right-hander Ryan Thompson (Calgary, Alberta) of the Franklin Pierce University baseball team has been selected to the Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star Game, as announced Saturday by the CCBL. Thompson will represent the Chatham Anglers on the East Division Team.

The Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star Game is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Saturday, July 28 at Whitehouse Field in Harwich, Mass., home of the Harwich Mariners. The CCBL is one of the nation's premier wood-bat, collegiate summer leagues and is sanctioned by both the NCAA and Major League Baseball.

Thompson's selection marks the first time in Franklin Pierce program history a player has earned CCBL All-Star honors. Thompson and fellow Division II player Carlos Asuaje, a sophomore infielder from Nova Southeastern, are the only two players among 42 All-Stars who do not hail from Division I institutions.

So far this summer for Chatham, Thompson has made five starts totaling 27.1 innings on his way to a 1-1 record and a 2.31 earned-run average. He has allowed eight runs (seven earned) on 24 hits, walked nine and struck out 27 (8.89 per nine innings) while holding opponents to a .250 batting average (24-for-96). Arguably his finest start of the year came on July 6 against Harwich, when he allowed two runs on three hits over 5.2 innings, walked one and struck out 11 on his way to the win.

After shaking off early injury trouble in his junior season for the Ravens, Thompson chalked up 51 strikeouts over 57 innings in nine starts and four relief appearances. He finished 5-2 with one save and one complete game, while posting a 3.47 earned-run average and a 1.35 WHIP. Thompson returned to his 2011 form down the stretch in 2012, as he recorded 28 strikeouts over 29 innings (8.69 strikeouts per nine innings) over his final four starts of the season.

The Ravens wrapped up the 2012 campaign at 38-19-1, reaching the 35-win plateau for the seventh straight season. The team finished as a semifinalist in the NCAA Championship East Regional for the second year in a row and made its eighth straight appearance in the NCAA Championship.
