RINDGE, N.H. (June 5, 2012) – Junior right-hander Ryan Thompson (Calgary, Alberta) of the Franklin Pierce University baseball team has been named to the CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-America Third Team, as announced late last week by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America).

To be eligible for selection, each student-athlete must own a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average or higher, be at least a sophomore in academic standing and be a starter or significant contributor athletically. Only Academic All-District First Team selections appear on the Academic All-America ballot. The Academic All-District and All-America teams are voted on by sports information directors in the district and nation, respectively.

It is Thompson's first Academic All-America selection, and it comes after earning his first Academic All-District selection in May, when he was named to the All-District I First Team. It marks the second straight season that Ravens baseball has produced an Academic All-American. Derek Ingui '11 was a three-time Academic All-District selection and earned Academic All-America honors a year ago.

Heading into the second semester of his second year as a Raven, Thompson held a 3.88 grade-point average as a mass communication major. On the field in 2012, he made 13 appearances on the mound, including nine starts, totaling 57 innings. He allowed 26 runs (22 earned) on 45 hits, walked 32 and struck out 51 to post a 5-2 record with one save and a 3.47 earned-run average.

The Ravens wrapped up the 2012 campaign at 38-19-1, reaching the 35-win plateau for the seventh straight season. The team finished as a semifinalist in the NCAA Championship East Regional for the second year in a row and made its eighth straight appearance in the NCAA Championship.
