Leach fans 10, picks up fourth win

Leach Leach reached double digits in strikeouts for the first time in his career on Thursday, when he fanned 10 Nyack batters.

LANTANA, Fla. (March 15, 2012) – Junior shortstop Dan Kemp (Sturbridge, Mass.) and junior right fielder Nick LaCroix (Grafton, Mass.) each had three-hit days to pace a 20-hit attack and sophomore right-hander Ryan Leach (Farmingdale, Maine) struck out 10 on Thursday night to lead the No. 20/22 nationally ranked Franklin Pierce University baseball team to an 11-3 win over Nyack in non-conference, neutral-site play at Santaluces Sports Complex.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 8-2 (0-0 Northeast-10), while Nyack falls to 7-5 (0-0 Central Atlantic). It was the first contest of an 11-game Florida trip for Franklin Pierce.

Both Kemp and LaCroix went 3-for-5 on the evening, and each hit a double and scored a run as well, while the latter added a pair of runs batted in to his ledger. Junior third baseman Anthony Peguero (Hyde Park, Mass.) hit 2-for-4 with a walk, scored a run and drove in another. Freshman catcher Matt Walsh (Plymouth, Mass.) also had multiple hits for the Ravens, as he went 2-for-5 and drove in a run.

The Ravens have now outscored their opponents 42-7 over the last three games and have plated double-digit runs in each of the three outings. The last time the team reached double figures in three straight games was on May 9-10, 2009 in the Northeast-10 Conference Championship. That was also the last time Franklin Pierce scored more than 42 runs in a three-game span, as that Ravens team plated 48 runs while marauding its way back to the title game after losing its first contest in the double-elimination tournament.

Leach took the ball for the Ravens and chalked up his fourth win (4-0) in as many starts to begin the season. Over six innings of work, he scattered eight hits, allowed two runs, did not issue a walk and struck out 10. It was the first career double-digit strikeout total for Leach, whose previous career high had been six.

Full statistics from the game are unavailable at this time.

The Ravens return to the field on Friday, March 16, when they face Molloy in a non-conference, neutral-site doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. at NSU Baseball Complex in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Both games are slated to be seven-inning contests. Franklin Pierce's home opener is scheduled for Tuesday, April 3 against Southern New Hampshire at 3:30 p.m.
