No. 19/22 Baseball Puts Away Bloomsburg, 11-3

Graves goes 5-for-5, scores three times

Graves Graves finished 5-for-5 in Sunday's win over Bloomsburg.

PHILADELPHIA, Mass. (March 11, 2012) – Sophomore left fielder Calvin Graves (Boston, Mass.) went 5-for-5, scored three times and drove in two runs on Sunday afternoon to lead the No. 19/22 nationally ranked Franklin Pierce University baseball team to an 11-3 victory over Bloomsburg in non-conference, neutral-site play at Philadelphia University's Alumni Field.

With the victory, Franklin Pierce improves to 7-2 (0-0 Northeast-10), while Bloomsburg falls to 6-5 (0-0 Pennsylvania State).

Graduate student center fielder James Roche (Arlington, Mass.) continued his hot streak with a 2-for-5 outing that included a double, four runs batted in and a run scored. Junior shortstop Dan Kemp (Sturbridge, Mass.) collected three hits with a 3-for-4 performance, scored twice, drove in a run and drew a walk. Sophomore first baseman Zach Mathieu (Derry, N.H.) finished 2-for-4 with a double and drove in two runs.

Junior right-hander Joe Flynn (Plymouth, Mass.) started on the mound and did not factor in the decision for Franklin Pierce. Over 4.2 innings, he allowed two runs on seven hits, walked four and struck out six. Sophomore right-hander Kevin McGowan (Nashua, N.H.) picked up the win (1-0) out of the bullpen. In 4.1 innings of work, he allowed one run on three hits, walked two and struck out two.

The Ravens return to the field on Thursday, March 15, when they take on Nyack in a non-conference, neutral-site contest to start an 11-game trip to Florida. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Santaluces Sports Complex in Lantana, Fla.
