RINDGE, N.H. (May 6, 2010) – Junior first baseman Angelo Bruno and senior catcher Ryan Healey each hit two-run home runs on Thursday night to lead fourth-seeded Stonehill to a 4-1, upset victory over third-seeded New Haven on the first day of the Northeast-10 Conference Baseball Championship, hosted by Franklin Pierce University at Dr. Arthur and Martha Pappas Field.

With the win Stonehill improves to 26-16 and advances to play second-seeded Franklin Pierce at 7 p.m. Friday. New Haven falls 31-12 and will face elimination against sixth-seeded Merrimack at 3:30 p.m. Friday.

Sophomore left-hander Michael White threw eight-plus solid innings to pick up the win (5-2) on the mound for Stonehill. He allowed one run on four hits, walked two and struck out six.

Stonehill jumped to a 4-0 lead through three innings on a pair of two-run home runs. In the top of the first inning, junior first baseman Angelo Bruno got the Skyhawks on the board with a two-run shot to left field, his team-leading ninth of the season. Then, in the third, senior catcher Ryan Healey hit a two-run homer of his own, this one to right field for his second of the season.

White took a no-hitter into the sixth before New Haven senior second baseman Kyle Donnelly hit a one-out single into left-center. He would score later to cut the lead to 4-1 when junior third baseman Tom Rombilus grounded into an RBI fielder's choice.

Senior right-hander Christ Smith took the loss (6-3) for New Haven. Over 6.2 innings, he allowed four runs on seven hits, walked two and struck out seven.
