Adams Headlines All-Northeast Region Selections for Franklin Pierce
Adams named Daktronics and
NCBWA Northeast Region Pitcher of the Year to lead list of six
All-Region selections for Ravens
RINDGE, N.H. (May 28, 2008) – Franklin Pierce
University is well represented on the three All-Northeast Region
squads selected this season. Five Ravens were chosen to both the
Daktronics and National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association
(NCBWA) All-Northeast squads, while four were named to the American
Baseball Coaches of America/Rawlings All-Region teams.
Junior right-handed pitcher Mike Adams (Orchard Park,
N.Y./Orchard Park) heads the list of All-Region picks for
Franklin Pierce, earning Daktronics and NCBWA Northeast Region
Pitcher of the Year honors and is a consensus first team All-Region
pick. Adams made 15 starts (17 appearances) on the mound for the
Ravens this season and has posted an 11-1 record with two saves and
a 1.36 ERA to go with 113 strikeouts and 36 walks in 112.2 innings,
holding opposing batters to a .183 average. He set single-season
program records for wins, earned run average, strikeouts and
innings pitched.
Adams is the second pitcher in program history to earn Northeast
Region Pitcher of the Year honors, joining Matt Weagle who was
named the ABCA/Rawlings Pitcher of the Year in 2003.
Adams, the Northeast-10 Conference Co-Pitcher of the Year, ranks
among NCAA Division II leaders allowing 5.91 hits per nine innings
(6th), while also ranking nationally in ERA (2nd), wins (7th) and
strikeouts (11th). He leads the Northeast-10 in wins, starts and
innings, while ranking second in ERA, opponent batting average and
strikeouts.
Joining Adams on all three first team All-Region teams are seniors
Kevin Renaud (Southbridge, Mass./Southbridge) and
Tyler Bishop (Milford, N.H./Milford) and junior
Scott Savastano (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth North).
Freshman Derek Ingui (Sterling, Mass./Wachusett
Regional) is a first team Daktronics All-Region designated
hitter, while sophomore left-handed pitcher Brian Maloney
(Brockton, Mass./Brockton) is a second team All-Region
honoree by the NCBWA.
Bishop earns first team All-Region honors for the second-straight
year. He made a program-record 23 appearances this season for
Franklin Pierce, posting a 6-3 record with nine saves and a 2.25
ERA with 55 strikeouts and just 16 walks in 40.0 innings pitched,
holding opposing batters to a .194 average. Bishop was named MVP of
the Northeast-10 Tournament, collecting saves in two of the Ravens
four wins en route to their second-straight tournament title.
Bishop, the program’s career and single-season leader in
saves with 20 and ten (2007), respectively, is three-time
All-Northeast-10 Conference selection, earning first team honors
the last two seasons. His nine saves this season are good for 17th
nationally and second among NE-10 leaders. He also holds the
program record with 53 career appearances. Bishop also earned the
save at the 2007 New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association
(NEIBA) All-Star Game.
Renaud is also an All-Northeast first team selection for the
second-straight season. He started all 58 games for Franklin Pierce
this season, posting a .348 batting average (79-for-227) with 45
runs scored, 15 doubles, three triples, eight home runs, 19 stolen
bases and 56 RBI. Renaud was named Most Outstanding Player at the
NCAA Division II Northeast Regional for the second-straight season
after hitting .522 (12-for-23) with seven runs scored, two doubles,
five home runs and 15 RBI in the Ravens five games en route to
their third-straight regional championship.
Renaud, who is ranked 10th among NCAA Division II leaders with
eight sacrifice flies this season, ranks among NE-10 leaders in
batting average (8th), slugging percentage (7th), runs scored
(10th), hits (5th), RBI (2nd), doubles (5th), home runs (4th) and
stolen bases (7th). Renaud, also MVP is the 2007 Northeast-10
Tournament, is a two-time All-NE-10 first team selection as
well.
Savastano earns first team All-Region honors for the first time
after being a second team Daktronics All-Northeast pick as a
freshman. He, along with Renaud, was one of just two players to
start all 58 games for Franklin Pierce this season. Savastano led
the Ravens with a .309 batting average (83-for-213) with 65 runs
scored, 20 doubles, two triples, nine home runs, nine stolen bases
and 45 RBI this spring. He set a program record by drawing 46 walks
this season, posting a .502 on-base percentage and .629 slugging
percentage.
Savastano ranks among national leaders in walks (15th) and walks
per game (21st), while leading the Northeast-10 in on-base
percentage, runs scored, doubles, walks and total bases (134). He
also ranks among NE-10 leaders in batting average (4th), slugging
percentage (2nd), hits (3rd), RBI (5th) and home runs (3rd).
Savastano is a two-time All-Northeast-10 selection for the Ravens,
earning first team honors this season after being a second-team
pick in 2006 when he also earned NE-10 Freshman of the Year honors.
He has earned All-Tournament team honors at the NCAA Northeast
Regional all three years. Savastano is a two-time Major League
Baseball (MLB) draft choice – taken by the Cleveland Indians
in the 28th round in 2007, after being chosen in the 33rd round by
the Chicago White Sox out of high school in 2005.
Ingui earns first team Daktronics All-Northeast honors for the
first time after a standout freshman season for Franklin Pierce. He
started 55 of the 56 games he played this spring, seeing time
mainly as the Ravens designated hitter (45 games), but also at
third base (9) and leftfield (1). Ingui hit .335 (72-for-215) with
46 runs scored, 12 doubles, three triples, six home runs, eight
stolen bases and 44 RBI.
Ingui, a second-team All-Northeast-10 selection, ranks among NE-10
leaders in runs scored (8th), hits (7th), RBI (7th) and home runs
(7th). His 17-game hitting streak late in the regular season was
the best of the year for Franklin Pierce. He was named NE-10 Player
of the Week once and Freshman of the Week four times this
season.
Maloney earns second team All-Northeast Region honors from the
NCBWA for the first time after a big debut season for Franklin
Pierce after transferring from Division II University of
Massachusetts Dartmouth. In 15 appearances (12 starts), he was 8-2
with a 2.87 ERA, 99 strikeouts and 33 walks in 78.1 innings
pitched, holding opposing batters to a .190 batting average. He
ranks fourth among NCAA Division II leaders in both hits allowed
(5.97) and strikeouts (11.37) per nine innings, while also ranking
among national leaders in strikeouts (17th) and ERA (25th).
Maloney, who has earned NE-10 Pitcher of the Week honors once this
season, ranks among Conference leaders in opponent batting average
(5th), innings pitched (9th), strikeouts (3rd) and wins (4th).
Franklin Pierce (43-15, 20-10 NE-10), ranked 14th in the most
recent pingbaseball.com Division II poll, 15th in the Collegiate
Baseball magazine rankings and 20th in the NCBWA national poll,
captured its third straight NCAA Division II Northeast Regional
title, advancing to the Division II Baseball Championships for the
fourth time in program history. The Ravens reached the 40-win
plateau for the third straight year and had 30-plus wins for the
seventh straight season. The Ravens also win the NE-10 Tournament
championship for the second straight year and the third time in
four seasons.
