Bishop, Ingui pace Ravens
11-hit attack, Beaudoin notches first collegiate win
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 15, 2008) – Franklin
Pierce University, ranked eighth in this week’s
pingbaseball.com Division II poll, 11th in the National Collegiate
Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) poll and 16th in the
Collegiate Baseball magazine poll, got back in the win column with
an 8-1 victory over American International College in Northeast-10
Conference baseball action at AIC Park this afternoon.
Senior leftfielder Tyler Bishop (Milford,
N.H./Milford) was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate for
Franklin Pierce with two doubles, three runs scored and an RBI.
Freshman Derek Ingui (Sterling, Mass./Wachusett
Regional) hit 1-for-3 with a run scored and three RBI,
while senior Kevin Renaud (Southbridge,
Mass./Southbridge) batted 1-for-2 with a stolen base, walk
and RBI. Grad student Jake Christman (Newton, Mass./Newton
South) finished 1-for-3 with a steal and two runs
scored.
Freshman reliever Robbie Beaudoin (Somerset,
Mass./Somerset) collected his first collegiate win (1-1)
as the Ravens used four relief pitchers on the mound today.
Beaudoin allowed an earned run on three hits with four strikeouts
and a walk over 3.2 innings of work.
Freshman Kyle McNiff (Westford, Mass./Westford Academy) was
3-for-3 with a double and run scored for American International.
Classmate Herb Coggeshall (Coventry, Conn./Coventry) hit 1-for-3
with a double and RBI, while senior Jason Rustico (Southington,
Conn./Southington) batted 1-for-3 with two walks.
Freshman right-hander Dylan Fontaine (Amenia, N.Y./Hotchkiss
School) took the loss for the Yellow Jackets (2-2), yielding six
runs, five earned, on eight hits with a strikeout and two walks
over five innings.
Franklin Pierce took an early lead with an unearned run in the top
of the first. Christman led off with a single to left and later
scored on a delayed double steal of home. The Ravens doubled their
lead in the third as Bishop led off with a double and later scored
on a sacrifice fly by Ingui.
American International cut its deficit in half with a run in the
fourth when McNiff doubled down the leftfield line with one out and
later scored on a two-out double down the leftfield line by
Coggeshall.
Franklin Pierce broke the game open with a four-run fifth after
its first two batters were retired. Bishop again started the rally
with a double down the left field line, and after a Christman walk,
scored on a two-run single by Ingui. Ingui scored on a wild pitch
and sophomore Kevin Rivers (Bristol, Conn./Bristol
Eastern) added an RBI single.
The Ravens added single runs in the seventh and eighth to round
out the scoring. Bishop led off the seventh with a single and later
scored on a sac fly by Renaud. Bishop delivered an RBI single
through the left side with two outs in the eighth.
Franklin Pierce (25-7, 10-5 NE-10) is back in action tomorrow when
it visits Northeast-10 leaders Pace University, ranked third in
this week’s NCBWA Northeast Regional poll, for a key
Conference clash at 3:30 p.m. American International (8-20, 6-11
NE-10) is off until the return leg of its two-game midweek series
with the Ravens on Thursday at Dr. Pappas Field at 3:30 p.m.
