Ravens help College Division to second-straight win in 33rd-annual NEIBA All-Star Game

RINDGE, N.H. (June 16, 2008) - Franklin Pierce University senior All-America outfielder Kevin Renaud (Southbridge, Mass./Southbridge) hit a three-run home run to lead the College Division (NCAA Divisions II & III) to a 6-3 victory over the University Division (Division I) at the 33rd-annual New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) All-Star Game at Fenway Park on Saturday.

Renaud became the third Franklin Pierce player to earn Player of the Game honors at the All-Star Game, as he finished 1-for-3 with the home run and three RBI. He joins Eric Cavers (2004) and Mike Chambers (2005) as Ravens named Player of the Game at the event. Renaud's blast in the fifth inning came off Central Connecticut State University senior righthander John Tesseyman (High Falls, N.Y./Rondout Valley Central) dropped into the Monster seats and put the College Division up 6-0. He flew out to left (first inning) and grounded out to third (third inning) in his other two at bats.

Senior All-America reliever Tyler Bishop (Milford, N.H./Milford) and sophomore lefthander Brian Maloney (Brockton, Mass./Brockton) were the only other Franklin Pierce players to see action in the contest, in which head coach Jayson King and his assistant coaches served as part of the coaching staff along with that of Trinity (Conn.) College - the NCAA Division III National Champions. King received his third-straight NEIBA Division II Coach of the Year honor, while Franklin Pierce collected the NEIBA's Division II Team of the Year award for the fourth time since 2003 in a pregame ceremony. The Ravens coaching staff was on the College Division coaching crew for the second-straight year.

Maloney pitched a perfect third inning, striking out two. Bishop worked the sixth and allowed three earned runs on three hits and a walk with one strikeout. Bishop earned the save in the College Division's 2-0 victory in 2007.

Junior All-Americans Mike Adams (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) and Scott Savastano (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth North) were also selected to participate in the All-Star Game, but were unable to participate.

Franklin Pierce (43-15, 20-10 NE-10), ranked eighth in the final pingbaseball.com Division II poll, 18th in the final Collegiate Baseball magazine rankings and 20th in the NCBWA national poll, captured its third straight NCAA Division II Northeast Regional title, advancing to the Division II Baseball Championships for the fourth time in program history. The Ravens reached the 40-win plateau for the third straight year and had 30-plus wins for the seventh straight season. The Ravens also win the NE-10 Tournament championship for the second straight year and the third time in four seasons.
