Chambers Named Louisville Slugger College Division MVP at NEIBA All-Star Game at Fenway Park

Three Ravens participate in 31st Annual NEIBA All-Star Game, University tops College All-Stars 8-2

BOSTON, Mass. (June 6, 2005) - Three members of the 2005 Northeast-10 Conference Tournament Champion Franklin Pierce baseball team participated in the 31st Annual New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) All-Star Game at Fenway Park last night.

Franklin Pierce junior second baseman Mike Chambers (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) was named the Louisville Slugger College Division (Divisions II & III) Most Valuable Player as he drove in both of his teams runs in the 8-2 loss to the University (Division I) All-Stars with a mammoth two-run home run that cleared the Green Monster seats in left field. It marked the second-straight year a Raven has taken home MVP honors as former All-American Eric Cavers led the College Division to a 9-6 victory last year to pick up the award.

Chambers started at second base and finished 1-for-2 with the homer and two RBI. He reached on an error to lead off the second inning before being erased on a double play. The home run came off Boston College junior left-hander Joe Martinez and split the "Sports Authority" and "Volvo" ad signs behind the Green Monster Seats in left field. The shot gave the College Division a 2-1 lead at the time and marked the first home run by a Franklin Pierce player at the event in program history.

Sophomore Garrett Olson (Norway, Maine/Oxford Hills) started at shortstop for the College All-Stars instead of his customary third base position for Franklin Pierce and was 0-3, reaching base twice on errors. He made two nice defensive plays, including one inning-ending play going to his right and firing a strike to first to end the third inning.

Junior Bryan Duplissie (East Swanzey, N.H./Monadnock Regional) entered the game in right field in the sixth and reached on an error in his lone plate appearance. He also pitched the ninth inning and yielded three earned runs on three hits with a strikeout.

Junior Shawn Hayes (Charlton, Mass./Holy Name) was also selected to participate in the game, but withdrew to attend a workout in Washington, D.C, with the Washington Nationals on Saturday.

Franklin Pierce (32-14, 21-9 NE-10) captured its first Northeast-10 Conference Championship of any kind this spring, winning three-straight games to take the Conference Tournament at LeLacheur Park in Lowell, Mass. The Ravens earned their second NCAA Tournament berth over the last three years and reached the Northeast Regional title game before falling to Southern Connecticut State University, 1-0. Franklin Pierce matched the program record for wins in a season for the third-straight year.
