Women’s Cross Country Competes at NEICAAA Championships

BOSTON (October 7, 2017) – Sophomore Julia Cormier (Northwood, N.H.) led the way in 158th place on Saturday, as the Franklin Pierce University women's cross country team finished 28th (out of 28 teams) at the NEICAAA Championships at Franklin Park.

In all, Franklin Pierce tallied 819 points on the day. Up front, University of New Hampshire (101 points) took home the title, followed by Boston College (119 points) in second and MIT (131 points) in third.

"Today was a challenging day for the ladies, although they ran well together in a pack and it was by far the most competitive race of the year, and they were not 100-percent healthy," said head coach Zach Emerson after the meet. "They are still poised to improve in 15 days at the NE10 Championships, where they will unquestionably be in a better position to succeed."

For Cormier, it was a 5k time of 21:05.5 to lead the flock of Ravens on the day, with a time which was good for 158th in the 194-runner field. Sophomore Rebecca Zylak (Goffstown, N.H.) and freshman Marissa Farago (Salisbury, Mass.) followed close behind, in 160th and 162nd, respectively. Zylak turned in a time of 21:09.9, while Farago checked in at 21:13.6.

Senior Natalie Davies (Ware, Mass.) in 177th and freshman Marisa Carbone (Scarborough, Maine) in 186th rounded out the scoring five for Franklin Pierce on Saturday. Davies ran a time of 21:33.1, while Carbone stopped the clock at 22:30.4.

The Ravens return to action on Saturday, Oct. 21, when they travel to Westfield, Mass., for the NE10 Championship.
