Women's Cross Country Finishes 15th at Pop Crowell Invitational
Alyssa Lambert breaks 5k school record by 19 seconds
WENHAM, Mass. (September 29, 2012) -- The Franklin Pierce
University women's cross country team placed 15th out of 27 teams
Saturday at the Pop Crowell Invitational in Wenham, Mass.
The Ravens earned 419 points in the 5k race, while Wellesley won the team title with a score of 51.
The highlight of the day for Franklin Pierce was the new 5k school record set by Alyssa Lambert (Manchester, N.H.), who placed 47th in a time of 20:10.7. It bested the old mark by 19 seconds, as Lambert became the third different female to break the record this season, which is the first for the program since it was given added emphasis prior to the start of the year.
Freshman Shannon Lozier (Merrimac, Mass.) placed 62nd in a time of 20:31.0, while classmate Doria Brown (Little Falls, N.J.) finished in 92nd place after producing a time of 21:17.3.
The other two Ravens to count towards the team score included freshmen Daniel Koch (Coventry, Conn.) and Sarah Barnard (Hopkinton, N.H.), who placed 108th and 110th, respectively. Koch ran in a time of 21:42.2, while Barnard raced to a 21:45.9 finish.
Overall, there were 317 competitors in the field and the individual title went to Roger Williams' Hannah Zydanowicz in a top time of 18:36.2
Franklin Pierce returns to action next Sunday when the Ravens compete in the New England Championships in Westfield, Mass. The 5k race will begin at 12 p.m.
