Lozier Leads Way for Women’s Cross Country at Ted Owens Invitational

Lozier Lozier was the first of two freshmen who led the way for the Ravens on Saturday afternoon in the Nutmeg State.

NEW BRITAIN, Conn (September 22, 2012) – Freshman Shannon Lozier (Merrimac, Mass.) finished 72nd out of 102 runners to lead the way for the Franklin Pierce University women's cross country team, which finished 11th on Saturday afternoon at the Ted Owens Invitational, hosted by Central Connecticut State, at Stanley Quarter Park.

It would be a pair of freshmen who led the way for the Ravens in the Hardware City, as Alyssa Lambert (Manchester, N.H.) stopped the clock at 21:02.84 to finish 74th. Four Franklin Pierce runners finished in the top 80 overall, as senior Keri Marnane (Cranston, R.I.) placed 78th in 21:24.45 and freshman Doria Brown (Little Falls, N.J.) posted a 21:27.28 to finish 79th. Freshman Sarah Barnard (Hopkinton, N.H.) ran a 21:35.18 to finish 82nd and round out Franklin Pierce's scoring runners on the afternoon.

Four other Ravens also ran at Stanley Quarter Park on Saturday afternoon: freshman Danielle Koch (Coventry, Conn.) placed 83rd in 21:35.49, sophomore Kelsey Devlin (Warwick, R.I.) placed 91st in 22:17.05, senior Brittany Mather (North Kingstown, R.I.) placed 98th in 23:30.20 and freshman Lauren Clum-Russell (Saco, Maine) placed 99th in 23:30.62.

Marist put a pack of three runners into the top four overall to blowout the rest of the field, as the Red Foxes won with 35 points, good for a 48-point margin over host Central Connecticut State. Hartford (116 points), Connecticut (120) and Bentley (121) rounded out the top five.

Individually, Bentley sophomore Tara Dooley finished first with a time of 17:35.84, bettering Marist sophomore Michelle Gaye (17:40.46) by just less than five seconds. Marist senior Katie Messina (17:59.27), Marist freshman Kristen Traub (18:01.57) and Central Connecticut State junior Elizabeth Eberhard (18:04.31) rounded out the top five individuals.

The Ravens are next in action on Saturday, Sept. 29, when they participate in the Pop Crowell Invitational, hosted by Gordon, at 9 a.m. in Wenham, Mass.
