Shannon Lozier Breaks 5k School Record as Women's Cross Country Competes Against all Division I Field at Bryant Invitational

RESULTS

SMITHFIELD, R.I. (September 8, 2012) -- Against a field of all NCAA Division I programs on Saturday, the Franklin Pierce University women's cross country team finished in 17th place at the Nassaney Invitational (5k race), hosted by Bryant University in Smithfield, R.I.

The only non-DI program in the field, the Ravens received a solid performance from freshman thinclad Shannon Lozier (Merrimac, Mass.), who placed 135th out of 183 competitors in a time of 21:46.2, which established a new school record for the fastest time in a 5k event. She averaged a steady seven minutes per mile to accomplish the new program mark and finished ahead of 39 Division I harriers.

Lozier's time was one of four produced by Raven harriers that came in the range of 22:30 and below. All four of those times were recorded by true freshmen, who competing in just their second collegiate race.

Danielle Koch (Coventry, Conn.) placed 146th as she ran the race in a time of 22:12.1. Alyssa Lambert (Manchester, N.H.) and Sarah Barnard (Hopkinton, N.H.) finished in 155th and 158th, respectively, with marks of 22:35.7 and 22:39.6. The fifth Raven runner to add to the team score was rookie Doria Brown (Little Falls, N.J.), who placed 165th in a time of 23:24.1.

Harvard won the event, while ACC-foe Boston College finished second and Quinnipiac took third.

Franklin Pierce returns to action next Saturday when the Ravens travel to North Dartmouth, Mass. to take part in the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational at 10:30 a.m. The men's race will be a five-mile event, with the women's race to be a 5k contest.
