Women’s Cross Country Competes in Northeast-10 Conference Championship

Devlin Devlin led the Ravens at the Northeast-10 Championship on Sunday.

WESTFIELD, Mass. (October 23, 2011) – Freshman Kelsey Devlin (Warwick, R.I.) finished 134th overall in a time of 21:57 on Sunday afternoon as the Franklin Pierce University women's cross country team concluded its season by placing 16th in the Northeast-10 Conference Championship, hosted by American International at Stanley Park. American International junior Jeptui Cherutich captured the individual title in 17:39, while Stonehill took home the team championship.

Devlin paced the Ravens by just over a minute, as junior Keri Marnane (Cranston, R.I.) stopped the clock at 23:02 to place 151st. Around two minutes farther back, sophomore Natasha Pastor (Fitzwilliam, N.H.) ran a 24:48 and junior Brittany Mather (North Kingstown, R.I.) finished in 25:06, as the duo finished 159th and 161st, respectively. Freshman Maggie Campbell (Queensbury, N.Y.) rounded out the five scoring positions for the Ravens with a 26:08 to finish 164th.

Also in the field for Franklin Pierce on Saturday were freshman Madelene Morrill (Greenville, Pa.) and sophomore Bianca Acebron-Peco (Bow, N.H.), who finished 165th and 166th, respectively. Morrill finished with a time of 27:09, while Acebron-Peco posted a 27:13.

Stonehill had four runners finish in the top 10 and placed all five in the top 12 to finish with 39 points and run away with the team title, to the tune of a 43-point victory over second-place Bentley (82 points). Saint Michael's (149), Merrimack (150) and Southern Connecticut State (170) rounded out the top five in the 16-team meet.

Individually, Cherutich edged Bentley freshman Tara Dooley (17:44) by five seconds for the meet title. Behind Dooley, Stonehill senior Maura Ferrarini (18:12), Saint Michael's sophomore Gabrielle Naranja (18:15) and Saint Michael's freshman Chloe Boutelle (18:21) rounded out the top five individuals.
