Cross Country Competes at Northeast-10 Championship

Dymek finishes 136th in 23:25 to pace Ravens

Dymek Dymek led the Ravens at Sunday afternoon's Northeast-10 Cross Country Championship.

EASTON, Mass. (November 7, 2010) – Junior Melissa Dymek (Hubbardston, Mass.) finished 136th overall in a time of 23:25 on Sunday afternoon to lead the Franklin Pierce University cross country team to a 16th-place finish at the Northeast-10 Conference Cross Country Championship, hosted by Stonehill. American International sophomore Jeptui Cherutich the individual title with a time of 18:02, while Stonehill collected the team title.

Two spots behind Dymek, sophomore Jillian Garrity (Manchester, N.H.) finished 138th in a time of 23:47. Farther back, sophomores Keri Marnane (Cranston, R.I.) and Brittany Mather (North Kingstown, R.I.) placed 147th and 149th, respectively, with times of 24:32 and 25:13. Sophomore Natasha Pastor (Fitzwilliam, N.H.) finished 153rd in 26:04 to round out the Ravens scoring in the event.

Freshman Bianca Acebron-Peco (Bow, N.H.) and junior Ciara Chicas (Westerly, R.I.) wrapped up participation in the event for the Ravens. Acebron-Peco was 154th with a time of 26:13, while Chicas placed 155th at 28:34.

Stonehill (56 points) put all five of its runners in the top 18 to run away with the Northeast-10 team title by 41 points over second-place Massachusetts Lowell (97). Saint Rose (119), Bentley (124) and Southern Connecticut State (128) rounded out the top five teams.

Individually, Cherutich finished 24 seconds in front of Stonehill junior Jill Alves (18:26). Southern Connecticut State junior Alasia Griebel (18:35), Massachusetts Lowell sophomore Kelly Walton (18:39) and American International freshman MJ Ohoueu (18:43) finished third through fifth, respectively.
