WESTFIELD, Mass. (October 9, 2010) – Junior Melissa Dymek (Hubbardston, Mass.) finished 164th overall in a time of 22:56.39 on Saturday afternoon to lead the Franklin Pierce University cross country team to a 27th-place finish at the 14th annual James Earley Invitational, hosted by Westfield State at Stanley Park. Vassar junior Johanna Spangler won the individual title with a time of 18:29.68 to help lead her team to the team title.

Just less than a minute behind Dymek, sophomore Jillian Garrity (Manchester, N.H.) finished 206th (out of over 300 runners) with a time of 23:53.90. Just over two minutes farther back was sophomore Brittany Mather (North Kingstown, R.I.), who finished 255th in a time of 26:04.85. Freshmen Bianca Acebron-Peco (Bow, N.H.) and Natasha Pastor (Fitzwilliam, N.H.) rounded out the five scoring positions for Franklin Pierce, as they finished with times of 26:33.61 and 26:38.16, respectively, to finish one after the other at 262nd and 263rd.

Juniors Elizabeth Iannuccillo (Amesbury, Mass.) and Ciara Chicas (Westerly, R.I.) also participated in the event for the Ravens. Iannuccillo placed 275th with a time of 27:33.78, while Chicas finished in the 291st position in a time of 29:22.19.

Vassar (28 points) had five runners place in the top 12 individually, as it ran away with the team title, posting a 35-point victory over Trinity (Conn.), which finished second with 63 points. Westfield State (135 points), Salve Regina (140) and the Coast Guard Academy (153) rounded out the top-five in the 31-team field.

Individually, Spangler finished 10 seconds in front of Trinity freshman Bridget Tevnan (18:39.75), before another pair of Vassar runners, freshman Aubree Piepmeier (18:53.86) and sophomore Kelly Holmes (18:55.85), finished third and fourth, respectively. Bridgewater State junior Molly Rouillard rounded out the top five individuals with a time of 19:03.70.

The Ravens return to action on Friday, Oct. 15 at the Saints Invitational, hosted by Emmanuel, at 4 p.m.
