Cross Country Competes at Jim Sheehan Classic

Keri Marnane leads Ravens in 23:55

FITCHBURG, Mass. (September 10, 2010) – Freshman Keri Marnane (Cranston, R.I.) finished 18th overall in a time of 23:55 on Friday afternoon to lead the Franklin Pierce University cross country team to a 4th-place finish at the Jim Sheehan Memorial, hosted by Fitchburg State. Eastern Connecticut State's Amanda Quinones won the event individually with a time of 21:18, while Worcester State took home the team title.

Marnane narrowly edged junior Melissa Dymek (Hubbardston, Mass.), who finished in 19th, with a time of 24:04. Behind Marnane and Dymek for the Ravens, freshman Bianca Acebron-Peco (Bow, N.H.) and freshman Jillian Garrity (Manchester, N.H.) finished 28th and 29th with times of 26:05 and 26:15, respectively. A little over two minutes later, freshman Natasha Pastor (Fitzwilliam, N.H.) at 27:44, sophomore Brittany Mather (North Kingstown, R.I.) at 27:54 and junior Elizabeth Iannuccillo (Amesbury, Mass.) at 29:06 placed 34th through 36th, to round out the performance on the day for the Ravens.

Worcester State (22 points) ran away with the team title and finished with less than half the points of Eastern Connecticut State (53), which placed second. Fitchburg State (76) placed third, directly in front of Franklin Pierce (93), while Anna Maria (130) rounded out the field.

Individually, Quinones ran away with a 37-second victory over Worcester State's Erin Donohue (21:55), Mauna Withington (22:07) and Brittany Grueter (22:10), who finished second through fourth, respectively. Fitchburg State's Linda Fortunato rounded out the top-five at 22:20.

The Ravens return to action on Friday, Sept. 24 at 4 p.m. at the Rivier Invitational in Nashua, N.H.
