Dymek leads way in 24:15

Melissa Dymek Melissa Dymek led Franklin Pierce with a time of 24:15 at the WNEC Inviational on Saturday.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 17, 2009) – Sophomore Melissa Dymek (Hubbardston, Mass.) finished 65th overall in a time of 24:15 on Saturday to lead the Franklin Pierce University cross country team to a 14th-place finish at the Western New England College Invitational. Castleton State junior Margaret Klein won the event individually with a time of 19:29, while Salve Regina took home the team title.

Behind Dymek for Franklin Pierce, senior Alexandra Edwards (Smithfield, R.I.) finished 94th overall with a time of 26:22 and sophomore Elizabeth Iannuccillo (Amesbury, Mass.) finished 99th in 26:58. Further back, sophomore LaPorsha Griffin (Bronx, N.Y.) placed 108th with a time of 27:56, while senior Natasha Williams (Bronx, N.Y.) was 111th with a time of 28:19. Rounding out the Ravens participation in the event were sophomore Ciara Chicas (Westerly, R.I.) in 119th and sophomore Frangelica O’Dell (Natick, Mass.) in 125th, with times of 29:40 and 30:42, respectively.

Salve Regina (41 points) ran away with the team title and finished with nearly half the points of Bard (78), which placed second. Endicott (83), Clark (110) and Castleton State (176) rounded out the top-five.

Individually, Klein tallied a four-second victory over Salve Regina freshman Paige Pallotto finished second with a time of 19:33. The duo left the rest of the field in the dust, as American International junior Sarah Beaudoin took third, but finished 42 seconds behind Pallotto. Salve Regina junior Caroline Norton (20:26) and Bard sophomore Audrey Vera (20:32) rounded out the top-five in fourth and fifth, respectively.

The Ravens return to action on Sunday, Oct. 25 at 11 a.m. at the Northeast-10 Conference Championship, hosted by Saint Michael’s, in Colchester, Vt.
