Daniel Webster wins men's event; Rivier captures women's title

RINDGE, N.H. (October 4, 2007) - Daniel Webster College won the men's event and Rivier College captured the women's title at the 2007 Franklin Pierce University Invitational on Thursday afternoon.

Rivier edged host Franklin Pierce with 26 points for the women's title, while the Ravens finished with 30 points. Jen Forsythe (Conway, N.H.) of Rivier earned medalist honors, completing the 3.1-mile course in 24:38. Franklin Pierce junior captain Courtney Garrity (Manchester, N.H./Manchester Central) took second place with a time of 25:10 to lead the Ravens. Rivier took four of the top six positions to help clinch the victory.

Sophomore Alexandra Edwards (Smithfield, R.I./Smithfield) placed fourth overall for Franklin Pierce with a time of 27:00, while classmate Kristen Sheridan (Auburn, N.H./Manchester Memorial) placed seventh overall with a time of 27:25. Freshman Sonja Foster (Newport, Vt./United Christian Academy) took eighth place with a time of 27:26.

The Daniel Webster men took the top four spots in the men's race and posted a team score of 16 to out-race Rivier (42 points) in the head-to-head matchup. Daniel Webster's Kevin Horton (Kingston, Mass./Silver Lake) took medalist honors with a time of 31:43 over the five-mile course. Teammate Chris LaPlante (Medfield, Mass.) was second with a time of 32:20, while Joshua Drazen (Hudson, N.H.) placed third in 32:44 and Achille Kongo (Campbell Hall, N.Y.) took fourth with a finish of 34:47. John Nicoloro (Cambridge, Mass.) was Rivier's top finisher with a time of 40:02, earning fifth place.

Franklin Pierce returns to action on Saturday, October 13, when the Ravens compete in the Western New England College Invitational at 10:30 a.m.
