Cross Country Hosts Franklin Pierce Invitational

Ravens take women’s meet, Daniel Webster win men’s

RINDGE, N.H. (October 6, 2005) – The Franklin Pierce women’s cross country team and the Daniel Webster College men captured the team titles at the 2005 Franklin Pierce Invitational this afternoon.

The Franklin Pierce women had its top five runners finish in the top ten in posting 27 points to out-race Rivier College (46 pts) and Daniel Webster (63). The Daniel Webster men also placed five finishers in the top ten to post a 25 team score, while Rivier was second with 61 points.

Daniel Webster’s Joanna Brinkerhoff took medalist honors in the women’s 3.1-mile race with a time of 24:09. Franklin Pierce freshman Courtney Garrity (Manchester, N.H./Manchester Central) placed second in 24:22, while Ravens junior Michelle Frazer (Braintree, Mass./Braintree) took third in 24:45. Jen Forsythe led all Rivier runners with a time of 25:52 for fourth overall.

Daniel Webster’s Edward Crellin took medallist honors in the men’s meet, completing the five-mile run in 35:11. Franklin Pierce sophomore Thomas Merkt (Enfield, Conn./Cathedral) placed second in 36:06, while Keith Fryklund led all Rivier runners in 40:52 for ninth place. Chris LaPointe paced Landmark with a fifth place finish in 37:49.

Franklin Pierce junior Burkett Farquhar (Marlboro, Conn./RHAM) placed fourth in 36:49.

The Franklin Pierce runners return to action on Saturday, October 15, when they compete in the Regis College Invitational at 10 a.m.
