Mitchell Earns Northeast-10 All-Academic Honors
Shirley, Mass. native selected to second team
RINDGE, N.H. (November 2, 2004) -
Franklin Pierce women’s cross country team member Rachel Mitchell (Shirley,
Mass./Ayer) has earned a spot on the 2004 Northeast-10
All-Academic Second Team. The teams are selected by the Sports
Information Directors of the Northeast-10. Candidates are chosen
based on their performances both in and outside of their sport. She
was one of just fourteen student-athletes selected out of the 22
who were nominated. The Franklin Pierce junior has earned a 3.95
cumulative grade point average while majoring in Mass Communication
with a Sociology Minor.
Serving as the team’s captain, Mitchell has been the most
consistent runner for Franklin Pierce this season. She took second
place overall with a time of 23:07 in the New Hampshire Small
College State Championships and finished in third place with a time
of 25:04 at the Franklin Pierce Invitational. Her time of 22:52 was
good enough for 10th place at the Rivier Invitational.
In 2003, Mitchell took first place in the Franklin Pierce
Invitational with a time of 23:15. She also came in second place in
the New England College Invitational and fifth place in the Rivier
College Invitational with times of 22:33.75 and 21:26 respectively.
Her time of 21:31.1 was good enough for 13th place out of 131
runners at the Regis College Invitational. In 2002, she earned a
second place finish with a time of 25:57 at the Franklin Pierce
Invitational.
