Cross Country Hosts Franklin Pierce Invitational

Franklin Pierce sweeps, men claim fourth-straight home event

RINDGE, N.H. (October 9, 2003) – The Franklin Pierce men and women’s cross country teams swept the 2003 Franklin Pierce Invitational held on campus this afternoon.

The Franklin Pierce men won their own event for the fourth-consecutive season, posting a 17 team score, as they claimed the first four spots. The Ravens outdistanced Rivier College (51 points) and Daniel Webster College (64) in the three-team event.

The Franklin Pierce women swept the top five spots to post a perfect team score of 15 to take the women’s event. The Lady Ravens also topped River (54) and Daniel Webster (63).

Franklin Pierce junior Adam Marsh (Rutland, Mass./Wachusett Regional) earned medallist honors at the men’s event as he completed the five-mile course with a time of 31:35. Senior Ben Niles (North Bennington, Vt.) placed second in 32:18, sophomore David Mura (Auburn, Mass./Auburn) took third in 33:03, and senior Jeff Joslyn (Sterling, Conn./Plainfield) was fourth in 33:14.

Michael Maggiocomo of Daniel Webster rounded out the top five with a time of 33:59, while Keith Fryklund led all Rivier runners with a time of 34:12 to take sixth.

Franklin Pierce sophomore Rachel Mitchell (Shirley, Mass./Ayer) earned medallist honors in the women’s event as she completed the 3.1-mile course in 23:15. Freshman Lisa Zizza (Quincy, Mass./Fontbonne Academy) took second in 24:50, senior Christine Morschauser (Utica, N.Y./Notre Dame) was third in 25:44, senior Lindsay Ketchen (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) took fourth in 25:44 and senior Jennifer Wilson (East Lyme, Conn./East Lyme) rounded out the Ravens sweep with a time of 27:03 for fifth place.

Emily Collier led Rivier with a time of 28:43 for sixth overall, while Sarah Bisson paced Daniel Webster in 29:12 for eighth overall.

The Franklin Pierce runners return to action on Saturday, October 18, when they compete in the Regis College Invitational at 10 a.m.
