Franklin Pierce Pair Earn Northeast-10 Honors
Roma named men’s soccer Goalkeeper of the Week; Meserve named Freshman of the Week for men’s cross-country
RINDGE, N.H. (October 21, 2002) - Two
Franklin Pierce student-athletes were honored by the Northeast-10
Conference office after standout performances last week.
Junior goalkeeper Domenico Roma
(Windsor, Ontario/Ste. Annes) was named men’s soccer
Goalkeeper of the Week, while freshman Jonathan Meserve (Pembroke, Mass./Salt Lake
Regional) earned Freshman of the Week accolades for
men’s cross-country.
Roma helped the Franklin Pierce men’s soccer team, ranked
fifth in this week’s National Soccer Coaches Association of
America (NSCAA)/adidas New England Regional poll, clinch a
Northeast-10 playoff spot with a 1-0-1 week. Roma posted a 0.45
goals against average and .923 save percentage in 200 minutes of
action.
Roma registered five saves to preserve a 0-0 draw with No.
20-ranked Merrimack College on Thursday for his fourth shutout of
the season (8th career). On Saturday, he matched a career-high set
earlier this season with a seven-save performance (six first half)
in the Ravens 5-1 win over Bryant College, ranked eighth in the
region.
Roma entered this afternoon’s Conference match at Stonehill
College ranked fifth in the NE-10 with a 1.04 GAA to go along with
a .786 save percentage and four shutouts. He currently ranks fifth
in program history with eight career shutouts, while his 1.10
career GAA is good for first all-time.
Roma has been instrumental in the Ravens current six-match unbeaten
streak entering this afternoon’s match as he has recorded a
0.62 GAA and .892 save percentage during that span.
Meserve earns his first-ever weekly award after his standout
performance at the Regis College Invitational on Saturday. Meserve
was the top finisher for the Franklin Pierce men's team as he
placed 11th overall out of a field of 57 competitors with his time
of 31:31.9 on the eight-kilometer course.
Meserve has been one of the top newcomers on the men's
cross-country team, as he recently posted a third place finish at
the Franklin Pierce Invitational with a season-best time of 28:15
last week. Meserve also posted the team's third best time at the
Pop Crowell Invitational and the Stonehill Invitational this
season.
The Franklin Pierce men’s soccer team (8-3-4, 5-2-4 NE-10)
returns to action on Wednesday night when it travels to New Haven,
Conn., for a huge Conference match with No. 1-ranked Southern
Connecticut State University at 7 p.m. The men’s and
women’s cross-country teams next participate in the
