Gowell Leads Cross Country at Shacklette Invitational
Women Take Ninth; Gowell Posts Top-Ten Finish on Men’s Side
GOFFSTOWN, N.H. (September 17, 2001) -
Senior Ken Gowell (Sabattus,
Maine/Oak Hill) highlighted the Franklin Pierce University
men’s and women’s cross-country team as it participated
in the Shacklette Invitational on the Saint Anselm College campus
on Sunday.
Gowell posted his second high finish of the weekend as he completed
the five-mile course in 28:25 to place tenth among 50 individuals
on the day. Gowell, who earned medalist honors in Friday’s
Rivier Invitational, finished just 1:02 behind winner Jason Eddy of
Bryant College.
FP did not post a team score as just four runners competed, however
Nathan Kennedy (Fitzwilliam,
N.H./Monadnock Regional) posted a time of 32:12 to finish
43rd overall.
The Franklin Pierce finished ninth in the women’s event and
were led by sophomore Meredith
Fontaine (West Warwick, R.I./West Warwick) who finished 55th
overall with a time of 23:11.
Sophomore Christine Morschauser
(Utica, N.Y./Notre Dame) posted a time of 25:43 to finish
77th overall, senior Molly Rosen
(Marblehead, Mass./Marblehead) finished 84th in 28:18,
sophomore Alyson Agri (Wakefield,
Mass./Wakefield) finished 86th in 29:31, while junior Sandra McCool (Telford,
Pa./Telford) was 87th with a time of 30:01.
The FP cross-country teams return to action on Saturday, September
22, when they participate in the Pop Crowell Invitational, hosted
by Gordon College.
