RINDGE, N.H. (October 19, 2021) – The Franklin Pierce University volleyball team fell in three straight set to American International College on Tuesday night at the Field House.

Junior Mariah Robles (West Covina, Calif.) was all over the court leading the Ravens in points (6.5) and in kills (six), and second on the team in digs with nine. Sophomore Morgan Schmutzler (Lockport, Ill.) led the team with 12 digs of her own. Junior Tessa Brandt (Foster, R.I.) was also impressive in the loss with five kills, seven assists and six digs.

The first set was won by the Yellow Jackets by a score of 25-18. The highly contested set started with three straight points from AIC, before Franklin Pierce secured five, bringing the score to 5-3 in favor of the Ravens. The set would continue to be back and forth until a five-point run from the Yellow Jackets shifted the momentum their direction to hold the lead up until the end of the set to go up 1-0 in the match.

The second set would end similar to the first with AIC leading 25-20 to win the point. The Yellow Jackets, once again, jumped out to an early 10-5 lead, but a comeback saw the Ravens go on a 7-1 run, allowing them to edge out AIC, 12-11. Unfortunately, AIC knotted up the contest at 12 apiece, before going on a 13-8 run to notch the set point and take a 2-0 lead in the match.

The third and final set of the match was not as close as the previous two ending 25-13. AIC jumped to a 5-0 start, then lead by 12-3. The Yellow Jackets pulled ahead even further, extending their lead to 20-10, the greatest lead of the match. The Ravens added a couple more points before the end, but the Yellow Jackets, ultimately, clinched the match point to win 3-0.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce moves to 8-9 overall, including 2-4 in the NE10 Conference, while American International improves to 18-6 overall and 5-2 in the NE10 this season.

The Ravens return to the Field House on Friday, October 22, for the leg of their two game homestand, welcoming the Southern Connecticut State Owls for a 7 p.m. match.
