Volleyball stymied, swept at Merrimack 3-0

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. (October 14, 2014) – Freshman Madison Klusendorf (Santa Maria, Calif.) and Hannah St. Jean (Olympia, Wash.) both had solid nights for the Franklin Pierce University Ravens on Tuesday night, but were stopped dead in their tracks on the road with a 3-0 loss to Merrimack College.

The Ravens got off to a slow start, and couldn't quite get themselves in sync. They dropped the first set 25-19, before dropping the second and third sets 25-21.

St. Jean had yet another solid game at the net for the Ravens, as she stuffed six of the teams eight blocks, while Klusendorf led the way with 10 kills, the only Raven in double figures in that category. Leading the Ravens defensively was junior Sarah MacHugh (Red Hook, N.Y.) who scooped up 14 digs, and was the only Raven in double-figures there as well. Hannah Runge (Deltona, Fla.) facilitated the offense, dishing out 19 assists on the night.

For Merrimack, Corrine Gosselin and Stephanie Sheehan led the way with 10 kills. Tara Stuhr passed out an impressive 34 assists, while defensively Madison Burke led the Warriors with a game-high 17 digs.

The Ravens take the court next on Saturday, October 18 when they face off against Assumption College on the road in Worcester at 1:00 p.m.
