Track & Field’s Arlabosse, Brena Earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors

Hugo Arlabosse and Paola Brena

USTFCCCA All-Academic awards

NEW ORLEANS (July 21, 2020) – Junior Hugo Arlabosse (Marseille, France) and sophomore Paola Brena (Queretaro, Mexico) of the Franklin Pierce University track & field program have both earned All-Academic honors from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, as announced late last week by the USTFCCCA. In addition, both the men’s and women’s squads were honored as All-Academic Teams by the USTFCCCA.

The USTFCCCA bestows All-Academic honors on those who compile a cumulative grade-point average of 3.25 or better and meet either the automatic or provisional NCAA Championships qualifying standards in an event during either the indoor or outdoor campaigns (only the indoor season was completed in 2019-20, due to the COVID-19 pandemic). To be honored as a team, a squad must carry at least a 3.0 GPA.

Arlabosse earned All-America honors and was named as the Northeast-10 Conference Track Athlete of the Year following an indoor season where he claimed both NE10 and New England titles in the 800 meters. He had qualified for the NCAA Championships via an automatic berth, as he hit the automatic qualifying mark twice during the season. Arlabosse finished the season ranked third in the country in the 800 meters and also helped the Ravens to a second-place finish in the distance medley relay at the NE10 Championships. He also collected the NE10 Sport Excellence Award for the indoor season and earned Academic All-District honors from CoSIDA.

Meanwhile, Brena also earned All-America accolades and was the NE10 Field Athlete of the Year after claiming the NE10 title in the high jump. She met the NCAA Championships automatic qualifying standard right off the bat and had punched her ticket to the national meet on just the second weekend of the season. In all, Brena eclipsed the automatic qualifying mark three times over the winter and was ranked second in the nation in the high jump heading into NCAAs. For her work in the classroom, she was an NE10 Academic All-Conference and CoSIDA Academic All-District pick.

Both Ravens squads were honored at the team level as well, with the women carrying a 3.58 GPA and the men sporting a 3.55 GPA.
