Track & Field’s Arlabosse, Brena Capture Major NE10 Indoor Awards

Hugo Arlabosse and Paola Brena

Northeast-10 Conference track & field awards

EASTON, Mass. (March 11, 2020) – For the second straight indoor season, sophomore Paola Brena (Queretaro, Mexico) of the Franklin Pierce University women’s track & field team has earned a major award from the Northeast-10 Conference. On Tuesday, she was selected by the league’s coaches as NE10 Field Athlete of the Year and was joined by junior Hugo Arlabosse (Marseille, France) of the men’s team, who was named as NE10 Track Athlete of the Year.

It is the second career major NE10 award for Brena, who was the NE10 Field Rookie of the Year for the indoor season a year ago. Meanwhile, Arlabosse picks up his first career major NE10 award. Both were NE10 champions during the indoor season, as Brena won the high jump and Arlabosse took home the 800-meter title. Both are headed to this weekend’s NCAA Championship in their respective events as well.

Brena met the NCAA Championships automatic qualifying standard in the high jump right off the bat this winter and has had her ticket to the national meet punched since the second weekend of the season. She went on to hit the automatic qualifying mark two more times before the season was done. Brena is currently ranked second in the nation in the high jump.

In addition to the NE10 title, Arlabosse was also the New England champion in the 800 meters this winter. He also advanced to NCAAs via an automatic berth, as he hit the automatic qualifying mark twice on the season. Arlabosse is currently ranked third in the country in the 800 meters. He also helped the Ravens to a second-place finish in the distance medley relay at the NE10 Championships.

Both Brena and Arlabosse will compete in the NCAA Championships, which are set for Friday and Saturday, March 13-14, at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Ala.
