INDIANAPOLIS (March 3, 2020) – The Franklin Pierce University track & field program will be represented by two student-athletes at the NCAA Championships, as announced Tuesday afternoon by the NCAA. For the women, sophomore Paola Brena (Queretaro, Mexico) will travel to the national meet, while junior Hugo Arlabosse (Marseille, France) has qualified on the men’s side.

The NCAA Championships will be hosted by University of Montevallo and the City of Birmingham on Friday and Saturday, March 13-14, at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Ala. The selection process begins with the top 16 competitors in each individual event. Student-athletes are then added or removed, based on strength of the field, to reach a meet size of 270 participants per gender, with a maximum of 20 competitors allowed in any individual event.

For Franklin Pierce, both Brena and Arlabosse return to the NCAA Championships yet again, as both qualified during both the indoor and outdoor season a year ago. It is the fourth career NCAA selection for Arlabosse, who also qualified for the outdoor meet in his freshman season. It is the 11th time in program history the Ravens have sent multiple student-athletes to a national championship meet. Further, since 2014, Franklin Pierce has now sent 39 athletes to NCAA Championship competition.

Brena will compete in the high jump, where she is currently tied for second in the nation on the season (1.76m), on the strength of a jump at the Middlebury Winter Classic on Jan. 11. The high jump will be contested at 6:05 p.m. (all times EDT) on Saturday, March 14.

For his part, Arlabosse has qualified with the country’s third-fastest time in the 800 meters (1:49.17), which he posted at the BU David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Feb. 14. Competition in the 800 meters will consist of heat races on Friday, March 13, at 5:40 p.m., followed by the final at 6:10 p.m. on Saturday. The final will consist of eight qualifiers, which will be the top three finishers in each heat, plus the next two best overall times.
