Women’s Track & Field Claims Trio of New England Titles on Second Day of NEICAAAs

Lilian Baah and CeCe Telfer

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (May 11, 2019) – It was a pair of student-athletes combining to lay claim to three New England titles on behalf of the Franklin Pierce University women's track & field team on Saturday, at the second day of the NEICAAA Championships, hosted by Southern Connecticut State. Senior CeCe Telfer (Lebanon, N.H.) took first place in both the 100- and 400-meter hurdles, while senior Lilian Baah (Danielson, Conn.) was victorious in the triple jump.

Combined with eight points from Friday, the three victories worth 10 points apiece made 38 total points for Franklin Pierce at the two-day meet. The Ravens finished seventh at the NEICAAA Championships, a high-water mark for the program at the prestigious New England meet.

Telfer had qualified with the fastest time in both hurdles events on Friday, and backed up the performances with a pair of wins on Saturday. She took first place in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.35 seconds, and also won the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 59.21 seconds.

Baah added a win in the triple jump, to make it a trio of New England crowns on the day for the Ravens. She finished first with a hop, skip and jump total of 11.92 meters.

Franklin Pierce had two other athletes in competition on Saturday at SCSU. Junior Katey Comstock (Windsor, Vt.) doubled up, by taking part in both the shot put and the discus. She finished 16th in the discus, with a throw of 37.20 meters, and took 19th in the shot put, with a heave of 11.74 meters. Freshman Alana Thompson (Westampton, N.J.) rounded out Franklin Pierce's participation at the meet by posting a time of 2:21.48 to finish 28th in the 800 meters.

The Ravens will find out which of their student-athletes are headed to the NCAA Championships on Tuesday evening, when the field is announced via a press release on ncaa.com, sometime after 6 p.m.
