NEW LONDON, Conn. (April 7, 2018) – It was three event wins and a total of six top-three finishes for the Franklin Pierce University women's track & field team on Saturday at the Coast Guard Academy Invitational. Senior Emily Quinn (West Bridgewater, Mass.) led the way for the Ravens with a school record throw to win the hammer throw.

It all added up to 74.5 points and a fifth-place finish for the Ravens, out of eight teams to score at the meet. Westfield State took home the title with 124.5 points, as the Owls narrowly beat out the Bantams of Trinity, who finished second with 122.5 points. Connecticut College rounded out the top three with 110.5 points.

Quinn fired the hammer 51.39 meters to establish a new school record, and narrowly missed out on an NCAA Championships provisional qualifying mark in the process. It was good enough for a first-place finish, to earn 10 points for the Ravens.

Franklin Pierce also got 10 points apiece for wins in the high jump and the 4x400-meter relay. In the high jump, sophomore Olivia Mabbett (Milford, N.H.) got up and over the bar at 1.54 meters to win the event. In the 4x400-meter relay, a quartet of freshman Alyssa Harris (Billerica, Mass.), graduate student Nicole Galewski (Whitman, Mass.), freshman Evaline Rodrigues (Rehoboth, Mass.) and sophomore Daijanique White (Hartford, Conn.) turned in a winning time of 4:18.63.

The Ravens would notch additional top-three finishes in the shot put, the long jump and the 4x100-meter relay. In the shot put, sophomore Katey Comstock (Windsor, Vt.) placed second for eight points with a heave of 11.51 meters. In the long jump, junior Lilian Baah (Danielson, Conn.) posted a mark of 5.17 meters to place third and pick up six points. It was also third place and six points in the 4x100-meter relay, as a lineup of Baah to Harris to Rodrigues to Galewski got the baton around the track in 50.96 seconds.

Comstock led three Ravens who scored in the shot put on Saturday. Sophomore Jen Iozzi (Cranston, R.I.) took sixth for three points, with a throw of 10.69 meters, while junior Kendra Covington (Torrington, Conn.) finished eighth for one point, by chalking up a distance of 10.46 meters.

Comstock was also one of two Franklin Pierce throwers to score in the javelin, where she posted a mark of 31.70 meters to finish sixth and pick up three points. She finished two spots behind senior Miranda Gagnon (Rollinsford, N.H.), who was fourth for five points, with a throw of 36.39 meters.

In addition to scoring in the pair of relays, Galewski tallied 5.5 points as an individual in a pair of field events. In the long jump, she placed sixth for three points, with a leap of 4.97 meters. In the high jump, she tied for sixth to claim 2.5 points by clearing 1.44 meters.

Two more Ravens picked up points out on the track, both of who also scored in the relays as well. Harris took fifth in the 100-meter dash to tally four points, with a time of 12.91 seconds. Rodrigues nabbed three points for a sixth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles, with a time of 1:15.56.

The Ravens return to action on April 13-14, when they return to New London for the Silfen Invitational, hosted by Connecticut College.
