Track & Field’s Minors, Purves Selected to NCAA Championships

NCAA Championships selection information

RINDGE, N.H. (May 16, 2017) – Senior Dage Minors (Hamilton Parish, Bermuda) and freshman Catherine Purves (Dalkeith, Scotland) will represent the Franklin Pierce University track & field program at the NCAA Championships, as announced Tuesday afternoon by the NCAA.

The NCAA Championships will be hosted by the University of Tampa and IMG Academy on May 25-27 at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. The top 20 competitors in each individual event are selected to compete.

Minors will compete in the 800 meters, which will feature preliminary heats on May 26 at 6:20 p.m., followed by the final on May 27 at 7:05 p.m. Purves will compete in the 400-meter hurdles, which will consist of preliminaries on May 25 at 8:25 p.m., followed by a final on May 27 at 7:30 p.m.

Minors posted his best 800-meter time of the year on April 21, at the Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton, where he stopped the clock at 1:49.39. The time currently ranks seventh in the nation, first in the East Region and first in the Northeast-10 Conference. Minors also qualified for the NCAA Championships in the indoor 800 meters this year, where he finished fourth.

Meanwhile, Purves qualified for the national meet on the strength of her 400-meter hurdles time of 59.96 seconds, which she posted at the prestigious Penn Relays in late April. The time is tied for 13th-fastest in the country and also ranks tops in the East Region and the NE10. It is Purves' first career NCAA Championship selection.
