Baah, Loney Have Pair of Top-Fives Each for Women’s Track & Field at Wesleyan Spring Classic

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (March 26, 2016) – Freshman Lilian Baah (Danielson, Conn.) and senior Monique Loney (Stamford, Conn.) each put together a pair of top-five finishes on Saturday to lead the way for the Franklin Pierce University women's track & field team to open the outdoor season at the Wesleyan Spring Classic.

Loney collected a pair of second-place finishes on the track in sprint events on Saturday. She ran a time of 13.06 seconds to place second in the 100-meter dash and added a mark of 26.58 seconds to finish second in the 200-meter dash. Loney was joined in the top 10 of the 100-meter dash by junior Breigh Souliere (Cumberland, R.I.), who finished ninth with a mark of 13.41 seconds.

Elsewhere, Franklin Pierce picked up a win in field events, as senior Nadine Hyde (Maple Valley, Wash.) came up with a mark of 42.78 meters to win the hammer. The most impressive throw of the day though, was only good for third place in the javelin for junior Miranda Gagnon (Rollinsford, N.H.). Her heave of 41.85 meters was good enough to meet the NCAA Championships provisional qualifying standard.

Meanwhile, Baah had her top-five finishes come in field events. She finished fourth in the triple jump with a hop, skip and jump of 10.65 meters. Baah was also fifth in the long jump, with a leap of 4.86 meters.

Along the way, Franklin Pierce also picked up a top-10 finish in the shot put from freshman Kendra Covington (Torrington, Conn.), who placed eighth with a heave of 10.23 meters.

The Ravens return to the track on Saturday, April 2, when they travel to the CCSU Invite in New Britain, Conn.
