Women’s Track and Field Posts 11 Top-10 Finishes at Wesleyan Invitational III

Demers solid in triple jump and long jump

 Zeigler Zeigler notched two sixth-place finishes at Wesleyan Invitational III on Saturday.

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (January 13, 2013) – Freshman Alyssa Lambert (Manchester, N.H.) won the 1,000 meters (3:10.32) and freshman Jackie Price (Brick, N.J.) won the 60-meter hurdles (9.49) on Saturday to lead the Franklin Pierce University women's track and field team at Wesleyan Invitational III, hosted by Wesleyan University at Bacon Field House. In all, Franklin Pierce posted 11 top-10 finishes at the meet.

Freshman Danielle Demers (Auburn, Maine) led the Ravens in the field events on the day, as she posted top-10 finishes in both the triple jump and the long jump. In the former, she posted a distance of 10.08 meters to finish third, while she notched a 4.64 meters in the latter to finish sixth.

The Ravens did most of their damage Saturday on the track, where Lambert and freshman Nicki Zeigler (Circleville, N.Y.) each posted a pair of top-10 finishes. Lambert added a seventh in the 3,000 meters (11:33.87) to go with her 1,000-meter win. Zeigler collected a pair of sixth-place finishes in the 60-meter (8.47) and 200-meter dashes (28.19).

Elsewhere, graduate student Amanda Kauffman (Rockland, Mass.) added another sixth-place finish, with hers coming in the 800 meters (2:29.30). Meanwhile, freshmen Doria Brown (Little Falls, N.J.), Shannon Lozier (Merrimac, Mass.) and Ashley Maresca (Brant Lake, N.Y.) each posted eight-place finishes. Brown's eighth came in the 1,000 meters (3:27.84), Lozier's in the 5,000 meters (20:17.02) and Maresca's in the 800 meters (2:39.18).

The Ravens return to action on Friday, Jan. 25, at the BU Terrier Invitational, hosted by Boston University.
