Women's Tennis Takes Control In Singles Play, Defeats Adelphi University 4-3

RINDGE, N.H. (10/11/22) - The Franklin Pierce University tennis team picked up its third straight victory following 4-3 decision over Northeast-10 opponent Adelphi University on Tuesday afternoon in Rindge, New Hampshire. All four points earned by the Ravens came from wins in singles competition.

The Ravens continue to impress and move to 8-1 (7-1 NE10) on the year, currently holding strong as the second seeded team in the conference standings. Adelphi drops their fourth match of the season, moving to 7-4 (6-3 NE10) overall.

Adelphi claimed an early 1-0 lead by winning the doubles point, but ran into a tougher challenge in singles action. Senior Liria Loria (La Paz, Bolivia) claimed the first point of the afternoon with a victory at the No. 2 position, defeating Adelphi's Katerina Liedbeck in two sets (6-3, 6-4). In the next three matchups, Pierce would collect another trio of wins, with the next coming from No.4 by Aynara Ferraz (Canary Islands, Spain) against Amanda Franstedt, also in two-sets (7-5, 6-4). At third and fifth singles, junior Zoe Asterio Correa (Toronto, Ontario) and graduate Ana Platisa (Belgrade, Serbia) steered the course towards victory, winning by scores of 7-5, 7-6 and 6-4, 7-5 respectively.

The two wins in singles by the Panthers would keep the action close, but would not change the outcome with the Ravens securing the four points needed for the win.

Women's Tennis will close out their regular season with a mid-week matchup versus Saint Michael's College, once again at home starting at 3 p.m.
